Trouble removing stock lower pulley
Trouble removing stock lower pulley
Title says it all.
Took the inspection plate off and locked that up. Broke the pulley loose with a breaker bar and thought everything was going good. The pulley was getting really loose and then all of a sudden it started getting tighter until the point i couldnt even turn it anymore. WTF. Tried going the other way. Once again it broke free and then did the same exact thing. Spent 3 hours on it and got no where. Anyone have any pointers? BTW When i was on the creeper below the truck i was turning it clockwise. Do they mean clockwise from under the truck or outside looking at the truck? Thanks for the help. Anyone wanna stop by MASS and give me a hand?

Here you go...

Keep in mind that this install shows a 99-00 style. The 01-up ios the same thing, it just doesn't have the adapter (it's part of the balancer on 01-up). I made this install page back in 99 when I designed the cageless Lightning pulley, so it's kind of old

Did you remove the 3 bolts from the cage before you started backing the pulley out?
Re: Trouble removing stock lower pulley
Edit: Removed my three bolts for cage comment. Odin beat me to it.
Outside the truck it's clockwise....under the truck it's couter-clockwise. While laying under the truck, you should be pushing/pulling the breaker bar from driver side to passenger side. Hope you get it removed. Good luck!

Jim it does sound like maybe you didn't have the three bolts off ??? I truly see no reason the Factory threads should be
screwed up. Plus I've never heard of anyone having a Prob
taken the stock caged unit off ???
I hope you worked it out

It looks like the assembly behind the aftermarket pulley in this picture.
Open the link Sal provided and go through the installation step by step. You'll see where you messed up.

I'd like to stress the point...
DO NOT FORGET TO REMOVE
THE ENGINE LOCK UP TOOL
BEFORE STARTING YOUR TRUCK!
