I was surprised...
I was surprised...
The interior of the Chevy SSR kinda kicks the Lightnings butt...
How come ford couldn't give us seats like those?!? They were great, snug bolsters, comfortable, a good incline...man...
Of course, being an American car maker, even though all of the interior was great, they still had an ***-looking stock radio head unit. What is with American manufacturers and cheap looking head units?

I also think the seats in the SSR are nice. Hope the new Ls will have something better that what have now(of course there is nothing wrong with the current L seats

NOT
The Chevy SSR is built for “suckers”…
Case in point, a friend of mine at work just bought one last week. It is a 2003 with the 290hp motor 5.3 I believe. Anyway they list for around $43k this guy went and paid $52k. The dealer told him they only made 500 of them in 2003.
First every since I got my Lightning this guy has been just having a got damn fit about the attention it has got especially since it has a supercharger. After I got it all of a sudden his Honda S2000 has a supercharger, even though there is NO supercharge on it. He could buy one for his Honda for around $5k.
Now he was telling people his SSR came with 2 engine options, one without a supercharger and one with. No can do, it has ONE engine option, 2003 290hp and 2004 has a 300hp, same motor. You can buy a supercharger for the SSR and it too cost around $5k.
I know because I researched it along with just how limited production the SSR was. He seemed to think the SSR in much more rare then the Lighting since ONLY 500 were made in 2003.
Had he actually done his homework he would have found out they made approx. 4,500 in 2003 and have plans on producing 14,000 to 15,000 a year. GM is now up to about 10,500 total SSR for 2003 & 2004.
He paid the mark up of $52k total for a useless UN-limited production vehicle. While I don’t think they look to bad, for even list of $43k they look cheap as hell and then ONLY 290hp – 300hp, Chevy truly did their homework and figured there was a lot of SUCKERS willing to part with cash, kind of like Dodge with the SRT-10…
It’s kind of funny his spending of $52k kind of backed fired on getting attention. He did get attention of “Who the hell would spend that kind of money on a vehicle?”
However it is a practice of Chevy dealers to tell their potential victims that only 500 SSR’s were made. On a SSR website there was a few pissed off people. They figure with GM producing between 14,000 – 15,000 it’s going to kill any resale value especially for those stupid enough to actually pay a dealer mark-up over the $43k list price.
I asked him when he was going to buy the SRT-10…

Dealer markup aside, the pricing is not that off...it is a HARDTOP convertible...you'll never see that for less then 35k.
Other then the head-unit, I did not think it had any "cheap" look to it anywhere. It is disappointing on the engine performance though.
I've been looking at it because it is smaller, converitble.
That could be fun but only with the right powerplant, especially since it weighs almost the same as our truck at 4760.

What I meant by "cheap" looking is that for $43k + money I would have thought it would look like it was really worth $43k +
It's not that bad looking really, but not something that I would even think about parting with more then $30k or so for...
