New floor for the L

I did this a few weeks ago. It took a lot of work to prep the floor but it is nice now. Cleans up easy and makes the garage look better than the same ol concrete floor. My concrete is not real smooth in the part I took the pic of but most of it is real smooth. I bought this stuff at Sam's Club for $69.00 per kit and it took two kits. (30' x 30' garage).

I had something similar in my last house but hot tires would peel it right up. Had any of that?

This is a water based product sold at Sam's club. I bought a concrete cleaner at Home Depot and rented a buffer with a black scotch brite pad. After I scrubed the floor with the buffer and concrete cleaner I took the power washer after it. I then hit just a few places with acid. Once it's clean just paint it and then sprinkle the flecks on. Then put the clear coat on. I put two coats of clear (I had enough in the kits for two coats). Don't drive on it for a few days and it will work like it's supposed to. Doing the prep work correctly is the answer.

I live in Texas and so far no Hot tire pick up. The company says this WILL NOT get picked up by a hot tire.

I think the rental on the buffer was $35.00 for the weekend. The pad (I bought it from the rental place where I got the buffer) was $5.00. The acid I bought at Home Depot. The instructions say that if you have any area that is shinny.....real smooth, that you will need to etch it. I had a few places and I just poored Muriatic (SP) acid on it and it etched it real good. It is a lot of hard work but it's all in the instructions and anyone can do it. Just follow the instructions! I've always wanted this kind of floor but was afriad of the hot tire pick up problem. This pic does not do the floor justice. It really looks kick a$$! When I work on the L I turn on the A/C (yes I have A/C in the garage because I lived in the garage for 10 months while I was the general contractor for building our house). You can see the stairs (my kids beds were up stairs) and you can see where the sink and pantry was. The pantry is where I keep all my paints, oil, brake fluid and stuff like that. We had a 36" shower. and our bed and couch and kitchen was in the area you see in the pic. Go for it!

Jerry,

Hey, the floor looks great! but you've gotta do something about that woodgrain wall paneling!

the photo looks like the set of "That 70's Show"

and OMG, is that a black and white TV I see?

j/k just bustin' your ***** man.

the floor looks great. your hard work paid off. I'd love to do mine the same, but I'm too lazy for all that work.

chris

Hey there was nothing wrong with the 70's that a few well timed drugs couldn't take care of! (Did I say that?). Really I just heard about that from some of the people I went to school with, now where did I live that bag of chips......
Cool garage!

Chris,

That IS NOT a black and white TV. It's color and it's how I watch football (Cowboys) and racing while I work on the L. The reason for the paneling is that I DON"T do sheetrock! I did it myself and it easy to put up. Since we lived in the garage for almost a year the garage also has 2 tons of A/C. So I have the A/C on now cooling off the garage so I can go screw around with my brakes and my powertow in cool comfort. Ok I'm braging now. I hate hot weather! Looking for Oct.

I know there was something wrong with the 70's but I can't remember what it was. It certainly was not the music!
