15-50 oil

Hello everyone,
I am wondering if using 15-50 oil would be ok down here in phoenix az. its like 100 constantly right now. After the first oil change i used 5-20 and my engine was noisy. The second change used mobil1 10-30. Little less noise, but still some. Wondering if using the 15-50 is to thick. What does everyone think?

I also want to know what you think about my first time at the track.

60'.....1.99
1/4ET.....13.76
1/4mph.....99.8

It seems like my mph should be higher am i correct?

By the way, the 15-50 oil i would be usig is the mobil1. I am also using the mobil1 oil filter. My truck is an 04.

My truck has a k&n drop in with a 3inch hole on bottom, and 3in hose mounted behind front bupmer grill.

I am no oil expert and I use 5W-30 Mobil 1 in my 03. I would not go any thicker then that. There are tight tolerances in there and the thicker the oil the harder it is to flow…

The most engine wear occurs at start up and again the thicker the oil the harder it is to flow and the longer it takes to get where it is needed. I personally wouldn’t go any thicker then a 5W-30…

Running a 50 weight oil in a modular engine can result in disaster. The ambient outside temperatures only create a slight build up in heat in the engine and isn't going to thin the oil out. The engine temperature is thermostatically controlled to keep it at the right operating temperature. A 15 weight is also to heavy at startup as that's where most of the wear comes from. If your engine is making noise, get it diagnosed. Trying to quite a noisy engine by using heavier weight oil isn't the right way to go. That's an old school trick for engines on their last legs.

I used the Motorcraft 5W-20 until I hit the 3rd change, then Mobil 1 0W-20 went in. After each change, for the first 200 miles or so, it had a little bit of dieseling-type sound to it, like I had a single piston knocking. It seemed to mellow out though, and I am sticking with the 20 weight until I get some serious miles on it.

From: Colorado,
Don't do it! 15-50

I agree completly with these guys.

Lighter oil means less friction and less work.
Thats why the factory has gone that route.
It also helped emissions (not that it is my first priority)

The noise is from the forged pistion skirts. Some engines have it worse than others.

I do agree to going with the 100% full synthetic if you have a few thousand miles on it.
