. I asked the tech and he said the engine had been "balanced and blueprinted or something", so they don't know what in the H they are talking about. I think the only concrete evidence they had was the diablo chip racing sticker.

Yea, I saw that the rods were numbered... it's too bad you can't slip the tech a few $$ and get some Manley rods to put in that new engine

Yeah, I'm sure that would go over real smoothly considerin the situation.
Where did you buy it in Covington, Georgia? I live in Covington and purchased my L there (used) as well at Covington Ford Mercury. They have serviced all my Fords for years and are pretty good to deal with.
Friend of ours bought an '02 of the lot with a 4 lb pulley
and a chip and a warranty ... Blew the rods outta the side ...
They replace them, blew the head gasket, they replaced it ...
It all depends on your specific situation, what the paperwork
says, and how you treat the dealer.... IMHO ...

That's all I can say right now.

I'm just saying it's a little shady that I talked them down to 21900 on an 01 w/ 14000miles (great deal)that blew up three months later. I also think they liked the fact that I live 5 hours away. As for the actual people, they seemed nice

Dude, congrats, and IMHO, consider yourself lucky. And thats why I asked if you had it at Magnolia location, because Tenn has the only SVT mechanic in town.
I'm happy for you.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
Well, now SVT, through pictures, saw that the coating on the plug had been worn off and they new it had a chip so my SVT and Ford warrantees have been VOIDED.
Now I called Covington Ford and they are attempting to help me out. If they cannot do anthing, I see that I have 2 options:
Have Covington pay for a new engine themself, or sue Covington. Anyone else got new advice?

I bought my 01 w/24K miles in 12/02 for 22,500 from Jim Wiley @ Covington Ford. He lives up the road from me and has been great to deal with. You might check with him and see what they can do for you. Of course, most any used vehicle you buy these days come with an "as is" statement somewhere in the sales contract.

Yes, it was this Covington. I am not saying that they are bad guys. They WERE up front w/ me about the chip, they said it voided the warranty and then they fixed that and had SVT engineers reinstate the warranty.

Covington Ford in Georgia is a very good dealership IMO. They were courteous the whole time with me, and payed the $9,000 bill, not including my $1500 rental bill for 2 mos.
All in all, it took a long time but I'm very happy that my L is back and running beautifully w/ a new engine
. Thank you Covington Ford.
I felt like Covington Ford would take care of you. I have been dealing with them for many years ( have 3 other Ford vehicles) and have always been treated fairly. As previously stated, I bought my 01 L from them used in 02 and didn't realize until recently that it had a 2# upper pulley and Diablo chip. Since I bought it very shorly after they took it in on trade (from a guy who works at the local Ford plant) I'm sure they didn't know of the upgrades. No wonder I couldn't pass up the deal! It ran so great when test driving it!! And, still runs GREAT!!
