Diff cover leaking....have questions.
The rear end cover on my 03 is "sweating" after only 13,000 miles. I thought of taking it in to get warranteed but decided that it's easy enough to just fix it myself. My questions are 1-do I need to use friction modifier? And 2-does anyone know what size threads are the bolts that hold the cover on? I just wanna reseal it with RTV and replace the fluid while I'm at it. I'd like to know the size of those threads because I want to make 2 alignment studs so that when the cover goes back on, I get it lined up perfect the first time. Thanks.
I understand about not wanting to take it in, rear end cover is a snap - yes, the fluid will need the additive, I used high-temp RTV on mine (it was just laying around waiting to be used up). Don't remember the bolt size, but it was common. Used a pump to put the new fluid in.
Wish all of the maintenance stuff was this easy (like spark plugs?).

Thanks for the reply......did you put any RTV or anything else on the threads? I don't think it is necessary as I have never done that before but I thought I once heard someone say to use thread sealer. I dunno. Don't think so.

Do you mean Lok Tite??
RTV is a liquid gasket maker........it's for sealing the diff housing and diff cover.
