Pics of Wideband Commander install

Since a lot of you just got your Wideband Commander kits from the group buy, I figured I'd share some pictures of how I installed mine.

I installed the sensor on the passenger side of the cat pipe, before the cats.

There's a grommet that comes up under the passenger side door sill that I ran the sensor harness through to get it inside the cab.

I then ran the wires behind the passenger side kick panel and under the dash to my mounting spot for the WBC module.

This pic should give you a general idea of where I ran the wires.

Here's the final mounting spot for the WBC module. I just used the velcro that came with the kit. You do have to dremel off a little tab on the back of the trim piece that covers the module, but you can't even tell it's there once you cover it back up!

Here's the gauge in my autometer column pod.

Hope that helps you guys out!

Thanks for the pics. Got any of the rpm, tps, and power connections? Are you just using the wide band for now, without the rpm and tps connections?

Odin - I knew someone was gonna ask that!

Here's a pic of the grommet that I routed the tach lead through. It's a thick grommet, so I took it out and drilled a hole in it so the wire cover would fit through it. You can see the wire (orange) is not hooked up in this picture. I used one of the tap in connectors that came in the kit to tap into the non red/green wire on the rearmost passenger side coil pack. Be sure to set the sensitivity to high and the divisor to 1 in the software for the rpm settings.

I also thought it may be good to show a better picture of exactly where I put the bung in the exhaust, so here ya go.

I haven't hooked the TPS up yet. I really want to get the new SCT datalogger that is supposed to come out soon, which would allow me to log that through the OBD-2 port instead of tapping into it. I couldn't hold off on the RPM hookup though. I'll probably end up hooking it up anyways unless the datalogger kit actually becomes available in the next 2 weeks.

Odin - Just noticed that you asked about the power too. I just tapped into the fusebox since I was already doing that for my gauges. There's a little metal exposed area at the bottom of the dash just underneath and to the right of the fusebox that works as a good ground. If I remember right, there was even a screw there from the factory that I used to hold the ground terminal!

Also, I have the USB cable coming out in the passenger side footwell area. It's just coiled up underneath the corner of the carpet by the transmission hump. You can't even see it, btu it's easy to pull out and hook-up to the laptop when I need it.

QuickSilver02,

I notice your gauge has the warning light, I called dynojet after I recieved my gauge minus the warning light, and they said that that they ended up not making them with the light.

I take it that now they are making them with the light. That sucks cause I really wanted that feature instead of hooking up a seperate light.

Thanks for the ideas, Nate. I just finished the WBC install and being able to visualize the installation helped me get started. I did a few things differently; but, only because I have long tube headers installed. I put the new sensor behind the passenger side cat. It's the only place I could get to with a torch and get the right angle for the sensor. I didn't bother with anything beyond the wideband gauge, since I don't have a laptop right now. I can go back and finish it up later, if I decide to use all the functions in the future.

Once again... Thanks!

Roger

Thanks for the pictures and write up on the install.

I am getting the bung welded in tuesday, so I started the install tonight. I put the control unit in the same place you did, but found a different place for the guage.

Warning,,,,If you try putting the guage there measure a few times and cut once. It is a real tight fit there and if you screw it up you will have a big hole and nothing to put in it. There is no room for error.

This was just a test fit, and it needs a little tweeking, but I think it will work awesome there
