whistling or sucking sound
whistling or sucking sound
I just put a 4# lower pulley and 67" Gatorback belt on. I have a whistling sound, sounds like a air sucking sound when on the throttle at low rpms. I had to break the tensioner clip to get this belt on, and I was wondering if I could have this sound because the belt is too tight. Ive read that normal belt for 4# is 67.5 or 68. Is this something to be concerned about and should i try the bigger belt? Also, James at RWTD said it may have something to do with boost bypass, since when I take the blower belt off it doesnt make the sound anymore. He said to check the valve and make sure it is seated correctly, and I dont know where to check at. Could someone shed some light on this too, maybe.
Sorry to be so long, and thanks for the help in advance,
Matt

I am also running a 4#er and a gatorbelt, same noise. I think it has more to do with the belt tread than anything else. I sprayed Prestone belt dressing and it made it louder! Oh, well.. i kinda like it now. I don't think that you have anything to worry about.
I think you're talking about the normal Gatorback belt whine. I believe the consensus is that it's from the cross ribbed belt. Sounds like a turbine, or a little like a centrifugal blower at low rpms. Mine does it and I love the sound when cruising through the hood.
Nothing to be concerned about I would say. I used a 68.0 on mine, but alot run 67.5. You should be OK though.
