Dyno tune. Best $xxx you'll put into it.

Then save up for a MP blower case...or if you're well-off, just buy it now then get the dyno tune

Good answer. The stat is a very cheap mod and it doesn't look like he has anything mechanically to help his shift.

Another cheap mod is to dilute your coolant mixtures for the engine and intercooler plus adding Water Wetter. Don't dilute more than you can get away with for freeze protection. In my part of the country a 70 water/30 antifreeze mix is good enough.

why is the 170 thermostat such a common mod? Does the little engine temperature change affect performance that much?

Thanks for the reply! :D

Sometimes when you install the 160 it throws an engine light, if you live in cool whether, you system can be stuck on a close loop mode (cold, heat up mode.) I read this somewhere; it uses different fuel tables (uncertain of this.) with the 170 the engine runs a little cooler! Another advantage is that the E-fan will not kick up until the engine reaches 180, if you are moving, the 170 opens and allows fluid circulation, the fluid cools, and it never reaches the 180 temperature to activate the fan… This conserves resources that can be used as “go” power or eliminates strain on the electrical system… IMO

How bout a ported Eaton from Apton Perf? Or a Accufab TB or boost by pass? The 170 stat and FTVB sound like great mods too
