Sticky throttle pedal

Has anybody experienced a sticky throttle pedal? It only happens when the throttle is totally closed and moving (foot off the accelerator) when I gently depress the pedal I feel a little resistance (sticking) at the first touch of the pedal, it is smooth thereafter. When the truck is stopped in drive and idling I do not feel this effect. I have checked the throttle body, and it is clean, I have moved the throttle butterfly by hand truck “not running” and the action is smooth. It kind of feels like there is too much vacuum, and when I depress the pedal it is overcoming the vacuum. I installed a 4lbs a couple of week past. “No chip” 2001 L.

This sounds extremely typical of a dirty TB. Generally you can see a very small ridge of crud right where the blades contact the body. Just take some "air intake cleaner" and a old tooth brush to clean it up. Make sure to clean it 100% where ever the blade touches. (and don't remove the TPS or you'll have to re-set it)

NOTE: Don't use regular carb cleaner. The stuff you want looks exactly like it and is generally found right next to the old std carb cleaner sprays. Point being... the throttle blades have a coating on them that will deteriorate with regular carb cleaner spray.

Same thing happened to our Expy. Dirty TB. Used the TB cleaner with some lint free rags and Q-tips and felt good as new. Good luck.

I guess, I have a mission for this weekend! The use of “Air Intake cleaner” (excellent suggestion,) I was unaware about the throttle blades being coated and will dissolve with the standard carb cleaner!

Thanks All!!! MadNess, I have the standard throttle body.

I know DanSS2471 had the problem as well, not sure if he fixed it. I'm sure he will see this and chime in.

They don't seem to do it anymore that I've seen. But the early Ford mod motors actually had a sticker right on the throttle body that said not to use carb cleaner because of this coating.

I had similar issue with my throttle and found just by adjusting the throttle body plate screw a bit to keep the plat from shutting all the way closed cured the sticky issue when you first apply the gas.
