swapping rear gears......who has done it?? How hard?? Special tools??

I'm wondering how worth-it is is to go from 3.55's to 3.73's. It's about 250 RPM in 1/4 mile, and with the torque we get from the blowers on these trucks, not sure I would go through the trouble.
Probably would try 26 inch slicks instead.
