No *!@# A/C at idle.........
Can't figure it out?
I have to be moving for the A/C to blow cold air. On start up no A/C until I start moving and if I come to a "long light stop" (more than 30 seconds) she starts blowing hot air, as if the A/C just shuts down?
Could this be related to my electric fan or my KB? A possible vac leak during idle? What the frick I feel like Rob02 complaining about the snow - I'm melting down here, but in the wrong way. Try 90 degrees the sun beating down on a black L - it's not a pretty sight!
Any ideas before I head to the dealership?
Thanks!!

This sounds like your e-fan is not being tuned-on when the AC compressor kicks on. An easy way to tell is to start the truck when it's (the truck that is) is cold. Set the AC **** to MAX. See if the e-fan is running. It should be running since when the AC is on MAX, the compressor is always on. If the fan's not turning, there's a problem with the relay/controller.

If you're getting cold air when the truck is moving, the problem is with the fan's controller/relay. The factory portion of the AC is functioning correctly. What fan kit are you using? If using a JDM-style kit, the problem is likely a bad connection to the factory AC relay or the fan's relay. Also, if you've got a switch to turn on the fan, try that and make sure that the fan is still working.

Right on the head. If you have a manual switch, make sure the fan works. If not, could be a bad circuit braker. If so, I bet it's the relay or a bad connection. I was never impressed with the options of connecting to the fuse box.
OOOOOOOOOOOh, Are we hot Dan the Lightnign Man

I've noticed my 01L with stock fan set up also does this some times I shut off the air and turn it back on and it will b low cool for a minitue then start blowing hot air.Start to drive and it starts to work great with no problems. Funny thing it does not do it all the time.

Low A/C charge can cause idle performance problems, but you'd have to have a leak to lose charge. In this case the perforance will continue to get worse even off idle.
If the fan isn't on at idle, the condenser won't take heat out of the system and the pressure will go too high and could trigger the "high pressure" switch. This will shut down the compressor until the pressure drops.

O.K. tried the manual switch and no fan, notta, nothing. So the fan is completely out of commission. It is a kit from Outrageous Performance that Tom installed in Bradenton (I know it is a Ford factory electric fan assembly). I should have paid atttention so I know where the hell the wiring goes?
On another note this is credit to the 160 thermostat and Ford factory rad - I have been driving in hot 80 - 90 degree weather for a week wondering what is going on with the air, obviously the fan hasn't been working for that timeframe, yet no overheating etc. Impressive!
I have a call into Tom, hopefully I will hear back from him on troubleshooting today. Does anyone know which fuse and where does the kit typically connect to? And this relay/controller part where is it and what does it look like?
Thanks guys! and a big thankyou for Rob sending the hottie picture. I think I may trade my L in for a Saleen - maybe that Blonde will come down to Fort Myers and cool me off

Luke, I happen to be one of the SVT officers in Fort Myers and we meet once a month, usually the second Wednesday. A number of our meetings are held at Immokolee where we get a good turn out of Cobras, Lightnings and others. If you want to get involved email me at dpearson@fortmyer.gannett.com
