Unhappy Cracked rotors

Hi guys
I was washing my truck yesterday and found out that my rotors are cracked
There are little cracks on the front rotors
Do i need to replace them???
Don't know what to do. i've spend all my money on a built transmission
I was going to replace my stock pads with ceramix and now i am a bit of confused

Can i use the ceramix on the cracked rotors??
Is this safe??

thanks

Johnathan

There add speaks of zinc plating and no rust.

I suppose they are referring to the none braking surfaces as the pads would wipe out the contact area. Right?

Sure do like the looks of the drilled set.

What do you think caused the rotors to crack? What is your driving style. Sounds like severe service???

Drilling them will crack them.Look at the race brembos they are slotted only. That is the majority of them untill you get into the one cast for the drilling.Stan

A friend of mine had cross drilled rotors...guess what...they cracked. Slotted/dimpled is the way to go.

This is important and needs to be expanded upon.

There are two types of Brembo rotors out there. The first are the OEM-type replacement rotors (maybe @$80-150). AFAIK, they are NOT designed to be cross-drilled (meaning that the casting does not accomodate later drilling).

Then there are the Brembo "big brake kit" rotors (@$300). When these rotors are cast, the provisions for cross-dilling are made to the molds.

When a regular rotor is cross-drilled, there is a good chance that it will begin to crack around the holes -- especially with the kind of abuse that a 5,000 lb truck hands them. Even the specially cast rotors stand a decent chance of cracking.

I just paid $600 for some replacement Brembo rotor$. Like the originals, these are cross-drilled. The first set held up fine, wearing to minimum thickness without any cracking whatsoever. We'll see about these.

The people at Brembo said "If you race at all, you
need the slotted version, NOT the drilled one. We
souldn't have even sold you the drilled ones if we
realized you would be racing it"

So after burning up the drilled Brembos, I now have
the slotted ones ...

Same price though .... < grin >

The only place to get slotted DIMPLED replacement
rotors for the stock setup in Stan ... ( cause he machines
them himself!!! )
