do aftermarket cams need to be considered when tuning?

the reason i ask is because i dont have the specs on the cam just yet....

The cam is the brain of the engine. It tells the valves when to open and at what rate, how far to open, how long to stay open, then when to close and at what rate. You definately should have the cam card to give your tuner for maximum performance.
