Angry Slowing Lightning

I have a 2001 Ford Lightning and I have a Diablo- Delta Chip, A JLP filter kit with the air intake under the bumper, a throttle body, 5# lower, traction bars, 2" drop shackles, plugs, Hoosier Quick time pro tires.

My best time is 13.01 with 1.88 60Ft. 105mph

Now i am running 13.4's and 13.5's
these runs were at perfect temp 65 Deg. f
It seems to be running slightly rich.

Any idea why i am slowing down?

my dyno sheet is avaliable at

I've been feeling the same way since I got rid of my original JL Diablo chip, and had it reburned for more mods... My times went from 12.7's/8's to 13.0's in only slightly warmer weather.

My guess is the best weather for the most HP (non nitrous) for these trucks is 50deg. 13.0's were slower mph as well.

Since, I've had the truck flashed, and am waiting for similar conditions to see if there was a gain with everything I've done. Running in 70+ deg weather is not going to show me how much stronger the truck is.

One thing I noticed, is my best times were in cold weather with low 1.8 60's. Havent seen those 60's since....and every .1 in your 60' will net you much more at the end.

I think I remember reading a post from Greg Evans once about something like what you are experiencing. He was talking about tranny clutches, (intermediate) ?, going bad and how it would show up in your et's getting slower by a few tenths.

Hope that's not whats happening to you.

Hey Ron, when are you going back to the track? I want to ride with you on a couple of passes. I am sure we can figure it out.

The weather really seems to effect these 5.4L S/C motors in my experiences. Last year I was running 12.8s pretty consistantly but on a bit warmer & humid day I could only run 13.3s - 13.2s. (speeds were down only about 1 mph too) I could just tell it did'nt seem to have the same power..... Track prep has a lot to do with it as well.

Ron - You, Marc and I need to run out at Norwalk so that we can make the best possible attempts. I believe that their is quite a bit of lost time in the runs at 42. Was your truck cooled down any before any of the runs? How were you launching on the Hoosiers?

93 Cobra:
I agree I want to try another track. In August, a friend of mine belongs to a Mustang club in Ohio, they're renting Norwalk on a Friday from 12-4. Hopefully it will only be about $25 a person.
Launched on Hoosiers, had 15 psi, tried power braking to 500 rpm, and then hit it; and tried about 1200, then hit it. 5-600 seems to give me a better 60 ft time.
Read some other messages, somebody mentioned transmission slipping. Little worried about that.

From what Marc has said about Quaker, it is uphill and times will be a bit off there. Have you run there before?
Before I head out anywhere, I need to get the tow vehicle fixed as well. The load leveling suspension on my '99 Expedition has pumped itself up fully in the back. The system will not vent the rear bags... not sure what the deal is with that. Anyone know anything about that?
