SES Light on EGR Flow Excessive??
aftermarket parts junk?????????
Sorry.....HIGHLY disagree with this statement,, not ALL aftermarket electronic engine control parts are "JUNK"!!!!!!!!
A strong statement that can not be backed up with fact. I agree SOME are without question made with "questionable" specs. and tolerances but not ALL!!!!! Take a close look at some of the "aftermarket" products we use day in and day out without an issue ,,, compare them to some of the "OEM" quality we see .....examples: computer chips (bad example but certainly engine control) MAF meter's, Fuel pumps, ignition components, injectors ect ect.............

your DPFE has two high temp rubber hoses going to it, are you sure that BOTH of these are secured on each end (to the sensor on the top end of the hose, and to the egr tube on the bottom end)?
in my experience, this code's definition has been accurate, usually just a hose that fell off or got knocked loose.
good luck.

lol. A quick look under the hood while it was hot, it -looked- connected, but I havn't had a chance to actually touch it.The P1406 says it is the downstream hose (P1405 being the upstream)...so I just need to jiggle it a little first, see if it goes away.

Ok guys,
Picked up what they call an EGR Valve Pressure Sensor at Autozone last night. It's part number SU2109 and made by Wells. Price was $59.99 for reference. Swapped it out last night. Seems like the truck still has some slight surging at constant speed. This started about a week ago. First guess was the fuel filter, which I changed. Then last Thursday it threw the EGR Flow Excessive code. Cleared the code, and has yet to come back. Slapped a new set of NGK TR6's in on Tuesday gapped at .040. While doing the plugs I noticed the two vacuum lines that plug into the bottom of the MAF elbow just before the throttle body were unplugged. Plugged them back up and though that was surely my problem. Still there, so I see this thread, symptoms matched so now the new DPFE Sensor. Any further ideas? I've also checked the chip to make sure it was seated good in the PCM.

Here is a funny one for you guys. I got a letter in the mail from Ford concerning my 2002 Explorer. It states that I have an extended warranty (2 yr./24,000 miles) on the vehicles tube mounted EGR pressure sensor (9J460). If the sensor requires replacement, they will do it for free. It gives program number 02M01 if that helps anyone. This is due to an improved design. The funny thing is that the Explorer just threw an EGR code on Tuesday. Hopefully this is it, and they will fix for free

Superfords,
I took "do not buy ANY........" as a statement of "ALL"
Not saying ALL aftermarket parts are better than OEM (ford, chevy, chry., and all others) I just feel and have seen MANY aftermarket companies step up and meet and sometimes improve apon the oem companies! My favorite example would be MOOG's line of front end components. I agree to stay away from no-name or "low line" products. An example is the blue streak ignition line ,,, they have a few different "grades".... kind of like snap-on and blue point.......
I agree with many that you are an asset to these boards,, keep it up.. and I was also just giving my 2 cents (from 25+ years) on this matter...
see ya,
Jon

Just to add to this, when I was having the code scanned by a Ford tech (fellow modofied L owner) he said they may or may not give you the updated version of the DPFE sensor - he also said either would be fine.
The one I got was the updated one, and it cost about $47 with tax at the Ford parts counter.
BTW, a week later and all issues are still gone, so I guess this was the fix I needed. I had tried a couple other things, so it was trial and error by this point.

Same part number. The one on your truck now is metal with HI and REF spots, one on each side - the updated one is black plastic and the HI and REF spots for the hoses are together on the same side of the sensor.
