Question for gauge pillar guys...
Question for gauge pillar guys...
When installing a two or three gauge pillar...do you have to hack the factory pillar at all? I want to install a pillar, IF I can just take the factory one off, and install the new one.
Any advice? Part numbers or brands? Install pics?

I have this Autometer 3 gauge pillar (sorry, not the best picture).
I just removed my factory pillar and stored it away and reinstalled this one in it's place.
no hacking of the factory part required.

chris

What part number was this that fits the '03's?
hmmm
i too have the 3 pod autometer, and it attached to the stock a-pillar. Only problem there was not enough room between the pod and the stock pieces for the guages to fit with the wiring and such, so i had to hack the center section of the stock one out. I thought it was me, but i'm not the only one that had this problem. I wonder why some autometer pillars mount up in place of the stock piece, and some attach. Mine had nothing to mount it by itself, no way it would have fit.

I THINK that I got it from Outrageous Performance, but it's been a while, and I was buying so much crap at the time that I honestly can't remember where each item came from, but I'd give Tommy a call.

BTW, I DID have to do about 3 seconds worth of trimming on the top edge of the new a-pillar to make it fit a little better. but seriously, it was VERY little work.

Bottom line: Auto Meter installs over and may require hacking. Lotek installs instead of therefore does not require hacking. But either one will require pretty extensive trimming on mid-02 to present.

muthafahker!!
Don...in the summitt online catalog it lists pillars that go over the factory one, and pillars that REPLACE the factory one...thats what I want!
" Anyhow, it came out good but i would have rather just sanded and painted one that fit right in rather than have to do that on top of hacking the stock one.

153xx = 97-01, installs over
173xx = 02-03, replaces
So my statement appears to be correct for 97-early 02, but incorrect for late 02-present.

I stand corrected. The 17 series are brand new Auto Meter parts.
