Question Questions about removing A/C...

I'm going to remove the A/C from my 02, but I'm having trouble finding the right accessory belt and tensioner that I need to get.

I went to the dealer today to get one from a regular F150 with a 5.4 and no A/C, but their system shows that it's a 6 rib belt while ours is an 8 rib belt. The part number for the 6 rib belt is 2L3Z-8620CA (the ford motorsport part number is JK6-803).

Does anyone have the part numbers for the right belt and tensioner that I need to use?

Man thats a drastic measure. When the clutch is not engaged you are just spinning the pully like an idler.

None of my beezwax but what do you hope to gain by removing the AC.

I don't live in a hot climate but I really like that AC there when I want it. Especialy with my Black L

I know that the drag is minimal from spinning the A/C, but every little bit helps. I'm really working on reducing the weight of the truck more than anything. I've heard that the A/C weighs quite a bit, plus is located way up front where you don't want weight. Best of all, it's a free mod.

My truck is a toy to me, and not a daily driver. The climate here in Northern Ca. doesn't get too hot for too long. In any of my cars, I never really use the A/C. I'd rather roll my windows down. I know what you mean with a black car though when it sits in the sun...

From: Colorado,
Ok I get it,

Plus you get rid of the big condeser in front of the radiator. That probably wieghs more than the AC pump and the rest of it put together.

Have you thought about ditching the front inner wheel wells?

There is a lot of little things that add up.

These front wheels and tires are pigs for 1/4 mile.
I got some 16' aluminum explorer wheels with 237/75/16 that saves about 25#ea side. You can sure feel the difference in cornering though.

Brake backing plates, one of the horns.

If you watch the ounces the pounds will take care of themselves.

It's a big weight savings if you remove everything, but forget the resale value.

sclightning,

Thanks, that's what I needed to hear.

I need to get the tensioner for a non-ac 5.4 too, right?

EZGZ,

Yeah, the little things really do add up. I really need to do the e-fan and the cobra-r pump. That's supposed to drop a considerable amount of weight too.

yysenheimer,

I don't plan on selling this truck, so I'm not worried about resale.

As long as your at it why not rip out the heater core and all the ductwork. ....... don't forget the radio and speakers. And the airbags..... can't be dragging dead weight around like that useless stuff. ......... don't forget the carpet, insulation, door panels, rear view mirror, dashboard, passenger seat, head liner, cruise controll, inner fender wells,

Don't forget to replace all the glass with Lexan

Perhaps get together with a couple buddies next weekend and play MONSTER GARAGE......... with the goal being to see how light you can get the truck and still keep it drivable and street legal.

Don't forget to post before and after Weight, and before and
after 1/4 mile times.

Why is it that anytime someone talks about removing the A/C, you get responses that imply that your out of your mind for wanting to remove it? From what I hear, it removes about 50-60lbs., I don't use it, and it's all located way up front. No one gives people crap when they talk about removing a hitch to shave weight.

I use a AC delete from a 4.6. It bolts in place of the compressor and weighs alot less. Don't listen to the critics. It's your truck. I always ride with my windows down in the summer when I drive mine so I figured that once you are in the 600 hp club it is time to start dieting.

When I was younger, that's one of the first things I would have done when looking for a performance and reliability gain, as not only do you save some weight, it "simplifies" your power sytem a bit. Save the parts and you can alway reinstall for resale so you're losing anything here. The e-fan and Cobra pump can save probably about 10-12 lbs over the stock fan and pump. I know when I took mine off, I was a bit surprised how heavy they were.

Cool

HI!... I removed my A/C set-up from my 5.4 about 4 years ago. I ended up using a NON A/C belt tensioner from a "99' F-150 XL with a 4.6. It was something like $68.00(CAN). It had a 8 rib pulley on it. I also got the belt to go along with it. Not from the dealer though. I got the GATES belt at a local parts store for one, third the price $26.00(CAN). Sorry, I looked for my bill with the part #'s but could not find it. It's been a long time since I did this mod.
