Question Buying built block at dssracing

I would have posted this in Motors or General sections but I know the majority of built motor people would be in. I apologize for posting in the wrong section if that is the case..

Anyone ever deal with the following company for any motor/block needs

www.dssracing.com

My brother is looking into a block that has been built and raced prepped from them. I just wanted to know of any of you "L" guys who may have dealt with this company and any good/bad dealings

I to have herd good things about their 5.0 engines. Its the best way to go cause I built one from the ground up and it cost much more than buying a crate motor already built. Just put your intake and basic stuff, and your off and racing!!! Good luck....

I heard good things about them, but I looked at there website and looks like they charge 4495. I know several L tuners on this site sell them for under 4K and they are proven already by members on this board.

There was a thread about this about 6 months ago or so. Try searching.

I bought a 5.0 bullet from them aroung '95 or '96 or so. I never installed it and wound up selling it, but when I checked some torque settings they were a little off (rod bolts, main bolts). That kind of worried me so I wound up going through the entire short block. I heard from a few Mustang guys that they got to be kind of like a production line setting.

To be fair, that was a long time ago and may not reflect present practices. I personally would look into them again.

But as Halflife said, I would go with one of the venders on this board who are proven by board members.

DSS is local to me. I've dealt with them previously on two occasions. I had them do a long block 351 for a Bronco, and a 2.3L short block with forged internals for a Mustang II I was going to use as a "Lightning class" stock car. Both turned out fine with no issues.
Several years ago, they expanded into a large brand new shop in St. Charles, Il. It is less than five minutes from my house, and I wanted to see how they had grown as I had been to their two previous shops with the above projects. I toured ithe new facility in December, and was quite impressed. The shop was extremely clean, very well organized, and equipped with top line machining equipment for doing, blocks, heads, cranks, etc.
They also have an extremely sophisticated CNC machine for making their own pistons, and several others for making block stiffers and other machined parts.
I've found the owners Tom and Ron to be easy to deal with and they stand behind their work. They spend a tremendous amount of time on their engine dyno trying to further improve their mail order engine offerings. I would not hesitate to go back to them, for other projects.

Lightning Bob and others,
Thanks for the info on this and their products. He is currently looking into their blocks and wanted to hear the good/bad.
I appreciate all the help and so does he as I sent him a link to this page. Sounds like they are pretty good and have a good reputation for some killer motors

Thanks again
