Need Track tips
Need Track tips
I'll be going to the track in less than a week and would greatly appreciate some little tips to give me an advantage. I ran a 13.94 to my buddy's 13.91 last year (WS6) and we have sort of a grudge run since we've both been modding as fast as our income will allow. Just need some cooling tips, and other things like that to give me the edge. thanks in advance guys
What are your mods? What year is your truck? How much drag racing experience do you have?
Cooling? You can always put a bag of ice on the intake when you first get to the track, as well as between runs....

I'm guessing that if any mods have been added that it's only the typical bolt on stuff? (A 13.9 does show that your driving pretty good for a stocker)
Anyway, even if you have a 4# lower and matching chip...
1) let it cool as much as you can with the hood open.
2) overinflate the fronts to 45psi & deflate the rears to about 28psi. (not any lower despite what some will say)
3) remove the front swaybar, spare tire, & hitch
4) scuff the tires decently not smoking them too much staying away from the water if at all possible.
5) launch at 800 rpms and roll as quickly into WOT ****WITHOUT**** spinning the tires. If they spin you are going slower.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out, Rich

I've got a 2000 L. Mods are JLP forced air, 4#lower, JLP tuned Predator, Bassani headers and catback, and Nitto 555's. Thanks for all the good advice. I'd really like to pull a 12.9 but don't want to get my hopes up. Thanks again
Actually i'm in North Carolina (near Raleigh) in the Air Force. But i bought my L from mark at PAS. I saw the pics of your truck on his new dyno, looks awesome! I'd like to get up there sometime and make a few pulls and BS with Mark again sometime. Maybe i'll get a chance to check out your truck if i ever make it there.
You've got 12.9 potential... but it's all in the Launch baby!
BTW: If it does spin a bit, just "pedal it". Don't let all the way off as it might shift into 2nd on ya. Just lift enough to not spin them too much. I got my best F1 run last month actually spinning them all the way through first. But I was pedaling it the bloody way too.
