High flow cats going away

I have read where others had this problem but hoped it would not bite me. After spending way to much for headers and high-flow cats 20,000 miles ago the cats are rattling like hell. Is there a better cat I can replace these with or am I stuck with these (and changing them every 20,000 miles) or going cat-less? This is BS when you consider what we paid for the whole JDM set-up.

I thought any aftermarket cats had to have a 50K mile warranty to be legally sold? Or are these listed as "off-road"?

Everything I have ever seen "off-road" means they are catless to begin with.

I understand that, but I've seen the aftermarket use this as a way to skirt the emission laws. I remember talking with the owner of Random Technology and am pretty sure that he said he had to give the same warranty as the OEM manufacturer in order to sell them, unless he listed them as a race part (off-road).

Anyone?

I know several of you have had this problem. Did JDM send you new one's (I really doubt that)?

Jerry you would have a problem with a wet dream.

I have 30 thousand miles on my high flow cats from JDM and even run leaded gas at times, ok most of the time, and have no issues with my cats.

jarmstro,

Well since you would be one of the first in line to drink the Koolaid if Jim told you to I guess I must not be telling the truth! My right side cat has something that has broken loose inside and makes a lot of noise. I just thought someone else that had been through this problem could help me with it. What difference does it make how many miles without a problem your truck has gone? Mine are making noise and I will have to replace them. I was looking for help not a smartass remark!

I've read more about the Bassani cats going south, but I don't really remember any about the JDM cats.

The JDM cats are CarSound high-flow cats, so its not that expensive to get one, the only part that costs extra is the welding for the piping length.

Dealer jim had issues with cats constantly going bad, so he switched to dual resonators in place of the cats.

I think the dynatech kits use carsound cats also, mine have held up great.

There are a number of posts here about stock cats rattling like a bitch as well... Mine stated making a hell of a racket and were replaced under warranty.

Do a search for exhaust rattle...

Since then I had the Carsound cats put in ( by JDM ) and have been running them for a long time - Best guess 40,000 miles - All kinds of gas - all kinds of conditions. They dont make any noise.

Jerry sounds to me like you may have gotten a bad set...
