How much to tip? Cylinder head replacement?

Ford replaced my cylinder head. The tech was great, gave me his cell, and kept me up to date. Had the truck for only 5 days. He was familiar with the "history" of my truck and there was no issues. I have a number in mind but my girl thinks I am nuts. Just want to see what you all would throw the guy that warranties my truck so I can determine my own sanity.

Thanks

That's a good question. Being a former Ford tech, here's my idea..

$20 says that you appreciate the help, and at least thought of giving a tip

$50 says that you appreciate the techs personal touch, and will ask for him in the future to take care of your warrante work

$100 says that you feel desperate for getting the truck fixed, and that maybe you feel you "have to" use this same guy next time, or you might get screwed

I'd go with a $50 tip, I think that's fair for his personal touch and what he did for you

So, I guess my girlfriend was right I was crazy. I was thinking $150 - $200 ( I guess in case next time I am desperate.) I guess I will give him $100 so I have an extra hundred to spend at PSP!

I vote $50 as well. Its the perfect amount. Shows you appreciate what he has done without going too overboard. Most would give the guy nothing so I am sure he will be very greatfull for an extra $50 in his pocket. Nice to see someone who appreciates good service.

$20 is not much better than $0. If he's weird, he may take it as an insult. $50-$75 is nice. He needs enough for a nice meal and a bar tab.

I agree $20 is a smack in the face, maybe for a break job.

I tipped him $100 and he seem pretty happy, he deserved it, truck runs great at 140mph

Josh, I think you called me this weekend. I left my cell in my waverunner at the marina on Saturday, just got it back this morning, I will give you a call tonight, the bracket should be in tomorrow or wednesday, so after that we can swap out.

Case of Bud Light and some Cigars. This lets him know that you know about some of the finer things in life.

Wouldn't tipping the service writer be the proper move?

I used to always sneek in a case of the Service Manager & Mechanics favorite beer, they both appreciated it and I always got top-notch service, sometimes done while I waited.
