Installed REM oil seperator...threw code

My '04 is mildly modified, but I still like the idea of the seperator b/c my '99 w/ 44k miles had a little oil in the intake.

So I installed the REM oil seperator and drove the truck 40-50 miles. I wasn't beating on it and there seemed to be no problem. After awhile I stood on it hard through 1st and 2nd gear and then let off abruptly and hit the brakes. Within a few seconds the Check Engine light came on. Truck still drove fine, and when I got home I checked the code and it was P0402...EGR flow high.

Removed the seperator, cleared the code and no problems.

Anyone else run into this problem after installing this product?

FWIW, there wasn't a hint of any oil in the canister, but it was only 50 miles or so of driving.

Thanks,

when i installed mine i had oil in it within the first 10 min of driving even under light throttle, and no codes either....are you sure you had hooked up right and so that the flow arrow was going in the right direction?

that would be my guess too. That's about the only reason it would give you a problem...JR

Thanks for the advice guys. It came with the hoses and hose barbs already fitted on, so there was only one way to hook it up. I've seen the pics on their website and mine looked just like that. However, I did not see any "direction arrow". But again, if it was backwards then they put it together backwards before shipping it to me.

Mine seems to be like max's... setup and plumbed to fit one way. I consider myself an above-average DIYer, so I'm confident I had it installed right (again, assuming it was built correctly when I got it).

it's possible that the filter cannister is backwards. you shuold be able to blow thru it towards the supercharger. if not it's backwards

Found the problem.

Turns out the little plastic plug at the base of the canister had a tiny crack and subsequently a hole in it. This would have allowed some unmetered air into the system under heavy vacuum...enough to throw the code.

I went to Home Depot and bought an 1/8" NPT brass plug and all is well now. I dont' know why the thing comes with a plastic plug anyway. The brass plug was like $0.35. A little teflon paste and all is well upon reinstallation and some test-driving.

Thanks for the input.
