Stiffest non adjustable shocks??
Stiffest non adjustable shocks??
Hey guys i'm recently been working on my suspension, I am currently running with the stock front springs modified (cut) 1.5 coils but that is soon to change.
This is what i have waiting to be put on: DJM upper and lower control arms with Ruslow 1000 lb coil springs. In the rear i've got DJM Hangers and Shackles.
Well now i'm trying to figure out which shocks to go with. I am leaning more towards the autocrossing suspension rather than drag suspension. I was wondering what shocks would be the best for my application. I was thinking about QA1's in the front because i'm not sure if any other shockswould be able to handle the 1000 lb spring rate of stans springs. Any help would be appreciated.
I want the truck to be really stiff and handle like it's on rails.

But on paper, it would suggest severe understeer.
With suspension design, theory is great, but experience and testing is better. It's all science, but somehow the predictions don't always hold up in the real world.
You might want to consider a set of Hotchkis front coils
I know they are not 1000 lbs spring rate, but at 825# spring rate I bet you would be real happy. Then throw a set of Hotchkis sway bars on and you will be riding on rails
These springs will compliment the stock real leafs better than a 1000 spring rate front spring.
That along with 4 QA1's I know you will be in love with the ride.
Once you ride in a truck with QA1's you will never want to drive a truck with stock shocks.
I used to have a set of the Older Hotchkis front springs and 4 QA1's and it handled great, but I bet the new ones would be more ballanced with stock rear springs.
Did you get the link I sent you??
Denny can make just about anything you need.
Like Tim said you first have to figure out what the length is between the upper and lower control arms. Then you can get a shock made to fit properly. I would suggest a shock valved 50/50 for what you are looking to do. I do not know the spacing between the control arms on the DJM control arms, but I bet the regular QA1's will work for you.

Thanks for the replies guys and thanks for the e-mail Don. The reason i wanted to go with stans spring was because first of all they are a lot cheaper than the Hotchkis springs $149.00 vs $120 for stans. And second is because of the custom spring rate. One question Don, by 50/50 what exactly do you mean? I'm sure it has to do with dampening but which is compression and which is rebound? And what would an ideal setting be for cornering and auto-xing??
One more thing, where should i measure from exactly to find the spacing beteen the control arms? Thanks again.
