Lighting vs Mach 1

Guys,
I ran into a deal where I could get a Mach 1 for 24000 brand spanning New. My wife said a Mach 1 would be a trade down from my L. What do you think. Would you trade?

would this be to replace your L, or in addition to it?

Ive been in many a mustang, and no offense to anybody, but the build quality is awful. Too much plastic, and the things squeak like a rusty hinge. The current chassis has been in production since 1979, and I just wouldnt buy one-with the exception of the new Cobra because the drivetrain more than evens out the deal. I owned a 03 L, and my mom owns a 02 GT 5 speed. After spending a ton of time in both-both in real world driving situations and at the track, there is no question that I would stick with the L. The only advantage would be space for more passengers in the stang, but then again if they are older than 5 there is no advantage over the L. Stick with the L, better platform, more rare, and more fun.

Although I really like stangs. Especially when they are loud and have a manual tranny....

The lightning is much nicer to own and live with IMO.

I've smoked a few mach 1's at the track, so I'm gonna say stick with what you got!

If you get the Mach, you won't be able to boost it much if you add a s/c to it. The Mach's have 10:1 compression and it doesn't have the 03-04 Cobra lower end.

Auto's have cast crank. Manuals have forged. I like them both. I would get in addition to. I wouldn't give up the L to get one.

It is all personal preference. However when the new stang body style is released and the 300HP GT comes out I forsee many MACH 1 owners trading up for a new GT. Finally Horsepower is steadily increasing from FORD. The build quality on the current stang is suspect. I had an 02 GT and traded it in for My L. I have never looked back... Good luck w/ your decision

Well, your question seems kind of loaded unless you are going to go to a Mustang forum and ask the same question. It's obvious that the majority, if not all, on here will say a Lightning. The Mustangs are very nice cars and they aren't all plasticy and cheap like a few have mentioned. Neither vehicle is perfect, but they are both very nice. Do what YOU think is best and not what others think. It's YOU that will be driving the vehicle and living with it. Good luck in whatever you choose, as either will make a nice driver.

Keep the L of course! The value on the Mustangs are going to drop like a rock when the new ones come out. Keep the L and wait until the new Mustangs come out, otherwise you may be kicking yourself later.

I own a 99 Mustang and the L......the L is much better build quality and nicer.
Of course I see Mustangs all day....even Mach 1's everyday even in my small town, but I rarely ever see one of the 5-6 Lightnings around here.

Just an FYI....The 03/04 Mach's are faster than the 05 in the 1/4. Build quality remains to be seen. If I had a Mach, I wouldn't get rid of it for a heavier, slower car that has drive by wire ETC, torque based strategy and a two piece drive shaft.

Let the back yard mechanic add the usual engine mods to the car that increase torque and your in limp mode to the dealer. Ford's new torque based strategy reads torque output and if is over the set norm it will throw a code and put you in limp mode or what we call "failsafe."

The new PCM will also tell the tech's and Ford rep's if the PCM was reflashed. When more people hear this I think the 03/04 Mach and Cobra owners will be keeping their mod friendly vehicles over looks. I know if the 06 Lightning has torque based strategy and ETC. I'll be keeping my Gen 2.

Ford wants to make it so I can't customize it. I won't buy it!!

I sell and drive them all the time. The Mach 1 is nice, but it's no L. If you were getting it in addition to, you'd be OK. If you replace the L, you'll regret it. I bought the wife a stang, and decided to go topless

or else I would have gone with the Mach 1. If you want to replace the L, better go with a Cobra. Just one SVT salesmans opinion.
