What are boost bypass and FTVB?

What are they and what do they do for you? Are they easy to do? Are they expensive?

The boost bypass is a solenoid that dumps your boost in certain situations. LIke if you over rev during a burnout. You can either unplug the solenoid, which is a touchy subject, some people say it may throw a check engine light, some say it wont. Or you can buy the boost bypass kit. Or you can do a search on it, and find out the parts you need, spend 3 dollars on fittings and make your own. Very easy once you find the pictures. (I hate the search button, maybe you can find it!) Good mod, do it!

FTVB....Factory Tech (The guy that sells it) Valve body. Basically a tuned shift kit for your truck. Very good mod. It will make your truck shift firmer under part throttle, and bark the ***** out of your tires on the 1-2 shift under hard throttle. It will work well with a chipped truck. Good mod...personal preference, some people don't like the firm shifts...I would reccomend going for a drive with someone who has done this. Easy to do if you have a lift and know what you are looking at. Drop the tranny pan...remove old valve body, install new one, done.

almost forgot prices....boost bypass. Anywhere from free (most tuners will throw it in with your order if you ask nice) to three dollars at the parts store, to 25 dollars advertised price from tuners.

FTVB I think they are around 200 bucks, sometimes you can find them on "monthly specials" for cheaper.
Hope this helps!

Whip summed it up very well.

btw: The part throttle shifts are perfect after you get a converter. Or at least I think so.

There is only one downside to installing the FTVB yourself. You need an inch pound torque wrench for the bolts/nuts holding the valve body in. Not really a downside I guess, but adds about $75 to the install if you dont already have one.

I don't use no stinking Torque Wrench, it's all in the wrist
But then again I'm the guy that puts Never-Seeze on the Plugs,
and is still driving around with the wrong tranny fluid

i just bought the inch-pound from sears, used it to torque the valve body in, and exchanged it for a foot-pound wrench. if you already have a ft.-lb. one, then just return it.

It is free. But why would I waste an hour sifting through threads that just mention the words and not explain them, when it will take someone 2 minutes to explain it for me.
