Question Air Conditioning Condensate Drain Question

Last Fall the pass side carpet in my 2003 Lightning got wet once. I've been keeping a close eye on it and so far it hasn't happened again. But - we had a nice muggy 85 deg. day and I noticed after an about 10 mile trip to the store and back with the AC - no water under the car when I pulled into the garage. Every post I read says to check the drain where it comes through the firewall, including the Haynes service manual I have. Well after about an hour of every possible contortion from both above the engine and from underneath the truck, I finally managed to get a finger on what I think is the condensate drain at the firewall - seems to have some sort of plastic shield on it that runs 3 or 4 inches down the firewall. Thats about it. Has anyone actually figured out how to get to that thing - and if so, what the heck needs to be done to make sure its draining? It looks like removing the pass side wheel/tire would help some. I would sure like to fix this myself if I can save a trip to the dealer and the inevitable damage they will create in working on it.

I-menace, how did you unclog the tube? For that matter, how did you even get access to it? I would appreciate any tips or suggestions on both. Thanks.

I also have the same problem. How do you clear the line?

What part of Arkansas are you in??

Some 2003 trucks 2002?? have a different type of condensation drain that can let water bank into the cab. Mine had the same problem. I took it back to the dealer they applied SSM 17309 and the problem appears to be solved. Also look in the HVAC section of this site, there are several posts dealing with this issue.

I'm in the North Little Rock area. Mine 2003 seems to have a plastic shield over it, compared to what sound like a simple tube that others have mentioned. It's making water now - outside - and the inside is dry but I don't trust it.

Here is a pic that I gave to the dealership to show where the water was entering the cab. I could squeeze water from the black foam that I have drawn an arrow to.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Fixed link for pic.

Yep, that's the same place I've been watching. I have wax paper wedged under it now forming a little apron that would let any drips come out on top of the floor mat, instead of running under it. Dry so far this spring. However when mine leaked last spring it looked like there was a slight stain running down the side of the transmission tunnel carpet from out of the heater floor duct. I don't know if there is some way the condensate pan could back up and water spill over in a corner and run out the heater duct???
Thanks

under the dash, near the middle is where the leak originates from, to fix thie Ford put a "pan" to catch the water, the Pan has a drain tube.
It is common that this drain tube get clogged up and algae grows in it, or some bacteria, all i know is it was alive and didn't like bleach.
I cleaned the pan and unclogged the tube from there.

Look undet the dash (remove some plastic trim) and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I actually think that the SSM puts a plastic elbow on the drain line to move the runoff away from the foam. I THINK that it only happens on the 03's due to the added sound dampening material. It is my theory that the foam insulation traps the water and allows it to seap back into the cab. But that is only a guess.
