Trap speed...

Hey all,

Went to the track for the second time last night, got in a few more passes. Still stuck running a 14.6-14.7 area... My question, though, is that my trap speed is only 93 to 95mph, even with an almost decent 2.20 60'. What's going on?

I know I have no room to do anything but improve, but does that seem right? Was talking to another L owner last night and he was confused as well as to why I wasn't more around the 98mph mark.

Also, should I switch to synthetics? I'm changing all my fluids today, thought it might be a good time but didn't know whether or not it was worth it, and if I'd have to do anything special other then draining and putting the synthetic in.

Thanks for any help,

Thomas

60 ft time does not affect trap speed much, but about 1/2 mph or so. You should be able to get the 60 ft times in the 2.0_ range, which will drop your ET's to 14.2-14.3 range. Is the elevation high there? I know that affects both trap speed and MPH as your truck would not be able to breathe the same as lower altitude. If your truck is the 360 HP version, I would say that 14.0 would be in the range.

Well, it's a 2001 with the only mod being a PSP FASTair. We're in Hawaii, so elevation is fine. I'm wondering if the 80 degree temp and whatever humidity we have could be doing it.

As far as getting my 60' time down, that's just going to take more practice. I tried like hell, but my best was only a 2.245. Usually more along the lines of a 2.4. Tried easing it out and stomping it at the 60' ft, but for whatever reason that just wasn't working. Since I'm totally new to drag racing, I might have been being too easy - which I don't think - or still being too aggressive. Kinda hard to find that balance. For the most part I was revving it to about 800 to 1000rpms, and going from there.

I'm wondering if before all other mods I should pick up a heat exchanger or power/supercooler to help with the heat...

Your trap speed is about 5 MPH low, which is a whole bunch.

With an auto tranny, your driving skills will have virtually zero impact on trap speeds.

Something is not right in your engine.

Kinda what I was expecting, and just what I didn't want to hear. Any ideas what I should do, or have looked at? Putting it on a dyno for a start?

I would suggest also tryin to leave off idle. I tried that whole bring up the rpm thing in my 01 and only achieved a best of 14.0....then with the advise of a fellow L owner I tried idle and got some 13.8's in 90degree/%humidity weather...

Yeah, I was trying to leave off idle. Having alot of problems with excitement, though. Hah.

You think the temp/humidity could lower my trap and ET so much?

Might check the plugs while I'm at it, good idea...

Think the dyno can tell me anything worthwhile?
