I'm sure that the article is available somewhere online, but I thought that finding the original January 1999 issue was pretty cool.

Way cool. You're going to need to get the one that will proclaim the gen III L as the new Worlds Fastest Production Truck when it comes out.

HEE HEE, when you find a 1999 issue while cleaning, that cleaning was probibly over due.
Nice find though!

Still Got Mine Too!

That issue is what convinced me to buy a Lightning, after barely passing on a Gen 1 in 1995 in favor of a 4x4 SB. Went down to my local Ford dealer the day after getting my copy in December of 1998 and put a deposit on a not yet available 1999 L. My dealer felt bad that he had to charge me full MSRP, and I was elated to not have to pay a markup over MSRP. It was tough waiting the six months to get it. I did get to sit in and fully examine one at the Chicago Auto Show several months before they were released which made the wait even worse. In retrospect, I should have kept my 99 and spent more money on more mods rather than trading up to the 01 and then the 02.

Two years later they were slammin' the "L" because they couldn't understand why someone would want a fast truck..."the Lightning has broken our staff into those who think a high-performance pickup is dumber than bottled water and those who think it's cool"... And no, that article hasn't been online for sometime. Screw C&D.

They show that cover all the time in their commercials on Spike.

If they thought it was such a stupid idea, they must think stupid ideas are good advertising.

I wonder what they think of a performance truck that CAN'T tow...
