Lined up next to a WS6
Lined up next to a WS6
The wife and I ended up next to a WS6 at the light, I figured what the heck he will take me but who cares. I look over and see the sherriff right behind him, I told my wife watch this and I creep foreward, light turns green and he's off burnin rubber with the sherriff in hot persuit. Moral of the story, look in your rearview before you race, it was funny **** Im still smiling.
I did the same thing to one of my old roomates. I had just finished telling him how he needs to work on his shifting from a race minutes earlier. We take off from the next stoplight where a sheriff has just pulled up to the light. I see him and shut down immediately. He not only spins first gear, but then chirps second. I continue on to work as he pulls over for the cop. When he gets to work I tell him "I said work on your shifting, but not in front of a Sheriff". He got an exhibition of speed ticket. On the following weekend, he can't find a parking space in front of the dealership so he flips a U at the light and lights up his tires as he's finishing the turn. Bad part, is the Sheriff in the gas station watching him do it. He gets pulled over and his second exhibition of speed ticket in one week.
Just wasn't his week.
Just wasn't his week.
That's worse than a kill. That's like a cat playing with his food.
One of the things they teach in perfomance driving schools is not to get tunnel vision, and be aware of things around you. There have been many cases where someone is so concentating on the car ahead of them that they lock on and follow them right off the track if they make a mistake. The brain also shuts down, and adrenaline takes over. Cops are also trained to avoid this, not just when driving, but also in a confrontation.
It sounds like he was locked in on the light and the competition, and lost sight of the fact he was on a public road. Experience is a great teacher.

Funny story... but, I guess I'm too nice.
I've had that happen several times where I knew the other guy didn't see the cop and I motioned to him to prevent him from getting a ticket. Both times the other driver was very thankful, and we ended up becoming friends. After all, we're fellow enthusiasts, no matter what brand/make we're driving.
Oh... and we raced later on anyway.
I raced several stock WS6 and SS F-bodies when I had my lightly modded (13.20) L. Beat them all to 80-90mph after which I shut down. Was a good 2-3 cars ahead of both. Down here in N. TX they typically run 13.3-13.5s stock.

Konig just tells you like it is, for *most* of us cops are more trouble then they are worth. Please no stories about the time your house was on fire and John Q Law jumped through the window to save your cat.
