2001 Red Lightning

World Ford Pines has this red 2001 Lightning with 15,717 miles on it. They are asking $24,995.00.

Vin: 2FTZF07361CA73423

1) Does anyone have unlimited car faxes? I'd appreciate it if you could run it for me.

2) Would you shy away from a used lightning? After all, I don't know if it was traded in due to fiancial or family reasons, or if it is a lemon and was beat on.

Thanks, I appreciate it!
Jake

That's too much jack. It's three years old. A new '04 should be had for $29k give or take, in addition if you value a warrenty the new one has it the old one doesn't unless you get an extended thrown in.

Bottom line if you could get it for $20k or less maybe. Also what about the intercooler recall. I think it applies to that year but I am sure someone else can confirm that. Good luck.

Thanks..

I hear you.
Here is the email I just sent to an internet sales guy who contacted me about a Lightning:

Hi Aidan. It's funny, World Ford just called me about their Lightnings ,
Sawgrass Ford called me last night, and your replying back. I haven't had
this much response to a quote request in my life!

Anyway, I'm signing the papers for the refinancing of my town home on
Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. Once the check is deposited, I plan to pay off
all my credit debt in full, The remaining amount will be used either in part
or completely as a down payment due to having some negative equity in my
Mustang GT.

Sawgrass Ford offered me 13K as a trade in. Now, either they decreased the
price of the Sonic Blue Lightning I asked about, or they increased the trade
in. Either way I am looking to spend at or around these terms:

Purchase Price: $29,000 + tax, tag, and title

Trade in: 2002 Mustang GT Steeda: custom leather, aftermarket sound system
with Alpine and Rockford Fosgate Components ; Steeda suspension stage 1,
Steeda
cosmetic modifications, Steeda Tri-Ax short throw shifter, brand new Dayton
Daytona 255/40/17 tires with 3,000 miles on them.

Trade In Mileage: 53,000 miles

Amount owing on trade: 15,858.01

Term / A.P.R Desired: 72 Months @ 2.9% A.P.R

Down payment: $3,000.00 - $5,000.00 ( depending how additional cash affects
the monthly payment

Credit: Having purchased my townhouse over 1.5 years ago, maintained bill
payments on time, and have recently been given an updated Chase Platinum
with a raised limit of $12,000, accompanying the $5000 Chase Visa I have. I
would assume that my Beacon score is somewhere in the mid 600's.
Understanding that my score might not be quite good enough, I have lined up
a co-signer, if needed.

Bottom Line: I realize dealerships need to make a profit on their sales. I
realize salesman have a low margin of profit. I want to be fair on both
sides. I have met people who have purchased 04 Lightings in the past 4
months. Prices paid ranged from 28,900 - 31,000. I know the invoice on a
lightning is around $28,500 - 29,500. Current fuel prices coupled with the
summer approaching bodes well for potential buyers due to the 05 trucks and
Mustang coming out. With higher gas prices expected throughout the summer,
and the 2006 Lightning is right around the corner, I would assume they would
have some wiggle room to deal.

I appreciate your time Aidan. If you feel Plantation Ford can come to an
agreement that comes close to what budget I've allocated for the new truck,
then I'll stop in on Saturday. I simply don't want to waste my weekend
visiting dealerships, only to be given the run around. (It's happened
before...many times)

World Ford isn't very high on my list due to their poor quality service and
support. It looks like it's going to be between Sawgrass Ford, Maroone
Ford, and Plantation Ford.
I will more than likely be ready to deal this weekend, next weekend at the
latest.

Thanks for your time Aidan,
Jake

Here is his response:

Unfortunately I cannot do the $29k ++++ and Ford does not offer any sub
vented rates on the SVT Lightning's.

Best of luck.

I Think it was just the 99-00's that had the intercoller recall

Sub-vented rate I think applies to the money factor, however I'll let Martman comment on that. Just a note though maybe not give out so much info next time. First find out the price they will sell for them let the dealer ask the questions and give short answers.

I would also suggest if you haven't done so to check out NADA and those similair to get an idea of your trade value.

BTW getting credit cards does not help your score. If you pay your bills on time you will get offers all the time. Just this month we got (yes we counted this year) over 60 pre-approved credit card offers. What a waste of paper.

I think 28-29k is what most of the L's remaining seem to be going for, maybe further inot this summer the price will drop.

I hear ya...

I hear ya...too much info.

Here's a good scoop. I just got a call from an internet sales manager. Apparently they have a left over 2003 Black Lightning that someone purchased and then returned with a few hundred miles on the odometer. When asked why it was returned, she responded with " He apparently had some credit issues and couldn't keep the truck"

The price their asking is $29,4XX. I asked her to see if they would take 28. What do you think about the returned due to credit. It has not title, so the full warranty would apply.

What do you think?

An '01 with 15K miles for less than 20K. Don't think so.

If you think the 2001's had an intercooler recall it just further shows how little you know about what you are talking about.

in anycase, 2001 for 25k? I don't think it would fly. I'm not all too savvy on it, but i know someone who bought a 2000 off a dealer lot, they had marked for 24k, he talked em down and talked em down and then left. They eventually called back and offered 19,500. So i think you can get a good deal on em if you try. It just depends on the market.

This by the way was in los angeles, so I'm not sure if that helps or hinders.
Are you serious, I'm just proving a point, the guy doesn't know what he is talking about, go look up the blue book, nada anything for a 2001 with that amount of miles and you can see thats what the dealers are asking and they are getting damn near that price for them as well. And I think you meant to say you are in San Francisco, thats how you were able to come up with that first comment right?

Hey guys. I'll start off by saying it's impossible to say what the market for the '04 L's will be like. We're not going to have any SVT's to sell next year and some dealers are holding out because of this.

As for the subverted rate, it means that Ford would drop your rate to what another lender might offer so they can get your business. The sales or Fleet person selling the vehicle has to call the local Ford Finance branch and get this from the branch manager. This doesn't happen often in my experience.

Like the others had stated. Keep your emails simple. Just tell them what you want, and let them know you have good credit. They will ask if they have further questions. If their Internet Manager is as busy as I am, I sometimes wont even read long drawn out emails. I'll just delete them.

Hope this helps.
