Standard 5.4 same as Lightning and HD?

My brother is telling me that the engine in his 01' F-150 is the same as the Lightning and Harley Davidson models except the Blower and Tuning.

I thought the heads on the regular model 5.4's were different up to 03' and some other factors on the motor as well.

I do know that the HD and Lightning models are the exact same except the tuning and blower psi and so on. But, I didnt think that the standard 5.4 was at all the same.

Any ideas?

I think that the only thing different between the two long blocks is the pistons. This Lightning pistons allow for lower compression as well as being stronger.

Same heads, same cams, same block, same rods, SOMETIMES the same crank. In 01, Ford started putting cast cranks in the standard F-150 5.4, but the Lightning still got the forged crank. The Pre 01 5.4s were forged in non-Lightning form. Pistons are the major difference, with the Lightning having a lower 8.4:1 CR.

Same rods huh, no wonder the damn things are so weak. You think Ford would of done better in a engine like ours.

arent people doing 11's on stock rods (shaving 2 seconds off stock times, in a 4600 lb truck)? I think they did just fine, i think the regular 5.4's just got an extra deal.
