Belt Squealing! What to do?
Hi all!
I have a 01 L with a 4# pulley and various other mods and the SC belt squeals at idle and lower rpm's. It's not incredibly loud, you can only hear it up close to the truck, but I am too picky to let this slip.
Anyone have any suggestions. I know belt dressing and WD40 dries out the belt, but just to see where the noise was coming from I sprayed the belt a little and the noise went away immediately.
Should I replace the belt? Check the pullies? Anything else you guys might suggest?
If I should replace the belt, where can I get a good replacement belt?
Thanks!

Very typical of a serpentine belt. Just simply replace the belt. However when it's off make sure to check all the rotating components. They should rotate freely with no looseness, roughness, or wobble.

You did'nt say which belt it was? The S/C belt or the regular FEAD belt.

Not sure about the regular accessory belt, but for the supercharger belt with a 4# lower, a 67.5 or 68.0" Gatorback belt is what you want.
I have never had any slippage with mine. Talk to any vendor on here and they will hook you up.

I had the same problem after I put my 4lb pulley on, but the squeal from the belt was very loud, I put the stock belt back on and havn`t had any more problems. (yes, the stock belt will work with a 4lb lower).
with engine running carefully take a bar of handsoap and touch the belt. It will make the sqeak stop and is not as messy as a spray belt dressing.
I almost replaced a water pump because I thought the bearings were going bad. This old mechanic came out to look and then went back and got the soap. Hid it in his hand so I couldn't see it. Opened the hood and did his magic without me seeing.
Noise never came back.
I insisted he tell me what he did but he just smiled and showed me the soap. " Big grin on his face when he said tricks to all trades"

One other trick, look between the water pump and the fan and you will see a shaft that is rusting that rust wiil fly off and get on the belt, try painting the shaft. I used a small paint brush. Hope this helps. Mike
SC Belt For Larger Pulley
Gang:
If memory serves me correctly (Iron Chef), the SC belt for a 4/6-lb pulley is the same part as the serpentine belt for a 5.9 Dodge (R/T, etc). How 'bout that?
