Steering column shaft is the problem!

i've been getting a shimmy like the tie rods or ball joint were going to hell

this shimmy is extra bad, even scarey at high speeds.

so i wiggle the wheels to find out my bearings are loose, so i repack and tighten up. in the back of my mind i thought i should check the column shaft, but i didn't. so i go out for a test drive and the shimmy is still there, but not as bad.

i've been hurt for the last couple of days. fingernail on my thumb got ripped off. so i haven't been able to check other stuff.

so today i say screw it and deal with the pain.

the damn column shaft is loose as hell, i can move it almost an inch up and down.

i can't believe this, i really love my L, but i mean almost everything brakes.

any of you guys had this problem too.

i haven't seen any 99+ f150's with this problem yet

I've got the same mysterious wiggle, I can feel mine threw the gas pedal. I finally tracked mine down to the steering shaft in the engine compartment. In the middle of the shaft is a u-joint and this seems to be getting looser and looser causing the wiggle. I am going to have the shaft checked my a mechanic to see what he thinks. I also notice alot of exessive noise coming from my steering box... will have to eventially upgrade to a 03 box down the road. These 2 things should get rid of all my steering slop.

My steering wheel has 1/2" of play to each side before the wheels turn. This was a problem before I dropped the truck and has since gotten worse. Around town driving is great, it's just when i hit bumps going 70 on the highway things get interesting

I don't know of a breeder, but I will say that is an excellent choice for a dog... If I had the room, I would love to have another...
