Cats or not??

Anyone tell me the advantages and disadvantages of running without cats. I like the higher octane leaded gas at the track and just wondered how many of you are running without cats???
Thanks

Rule of thumb is that when you ditch the cats you'll loose low end torque. But gain top end HP.

Looks like your capable of some awfully quick times and high speeds. So a no cat setup sounds like it would be right up your alley.

Yes, I would imagine so!! I have high flow Magnaflow cats with a Magnaflow cat-back and it is pretty loud.

I personally feel high flow cats are the way to go, but that's just my biased opinion. You retain some low end backpressure, but free up high rpm flow.

Awesome #'s man. Back to the question at hand. I don't run cats because i'm in a sense like you in that i like to run high octane leaded fuel. Granted i don't have the #'s you do, but i could tell a difference on the high side and i didn't feel any low end loss. I believe the Minimal if any loss of torque is well worth the loss because of the substantial amount of timing that can be add due to the use of high octane leaded fuel.

Hey-

738lbft with LT's, no cats and Bassani CB, 792lbft w/cutouts open.

No shortage of torque here.

Mybee someone can answer a question for me, and I have been looking.

I am trying to find a set of small mufflers to replace my cats.

I would like to find something with a 8-9 inch long body. I know DynoMax makes a little bullet muffler that Dealer Jim put in place of the cats, but I would like to find something with just a little bit more sound deadening in it.

If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Don Ive been exploring the same thing. Problem being there is so much heat at the point of the cats (former) location that it will burn any kind of glass pack out. What was recommended to me was some sort of small muffler that has a spiral baffle inside. Please stay in touch with me if you try anything, and I will do likewise.

Me too! I have to quiet down this LT/Cats/Bassani cat-back system. Just too loud. Put some Car Chemistry inserts (race style 3" units) in a section of 3" pipe and adapted to the mid pipes after the cats. Took the edge off but still too loud.
