I have the smoke on startup problem too. I've got an 01 with 100k miles but it started doing this at around 30k i am guessing. It comes and goes which is really weird but if i let the truck idle for more than 10-20 secs after i stop it will usually smoke when i start it back up.

If u do not have the pcv system bypassed with breathers or an oil seperator, there is a ton of oil being pulled into the intake, and a good deal will pool at the bottom of the intake and can be sucked in at startup and causeing this...my 03 engine with 18,500 miles would use a half quart+ of oil every 500-600 miles when i first got it, I new about this issue before i bought my truck and i installed 2 k&n breathers, remote mounted and it does not use one drop of oil now...good luck.....
