Stroker Motor

I was just curious as to how many people were known to be running stroked 5.4's. The only people i know of running them are johnny and rusty. Is there any one else

more cubic inches, and i think strokers by nature are a bit more torquey.

I was curious as to who was running one and how mainstream they were. Rusty told me that if he had it to do over again he wouldn't stroke it. I was knid of curious as to how other people liked theirs and if they tought it was worth it.

isn't the 5.4 a stroke 4.6?

if so we are all running stroked motors

basically true. You'll make notice that the 5.4 makes torque a lot earlier than the 4.6, plus the additional power. This is also why the 5.4 can't rev as high in general, and can't rev as high as the 4.6. I think this is generally why most people opt to not stroke the 5.4, not to mention the extreme cost (mostly in the crank i think).

HI!... The 5.4 IS NOT a stroked 4.6. The 4.6 and 5.4 share the same bore but the 5.4 has a taller deck height, there fore the longer stroke. It's similar to the old 302/351W differences.

Stroking the 5.4 isn't the best plan, it already has a longer stroke than any other production big block ever did, meaning extreme piston speeds and much higher loads on the rods than more conventional, closer to square engines.

the 5.4 already behaves like stoker motor and is extremely torquey, making over 100lb ft more torque than HP usually. There is no need to make more torque, a stroker in this application can only increase displacement by a small amount, and the great expense and maintenance aren't worth it for the extra 2-4 tenths of a liter. Even in an application like JLP's truck, there are other things with greater benefit he couldve done before strokign the engine.

The best way to increase displacement in a 5.4 is to use a big-bore kit with an SHM block or Dart Sleeve kit.

the only thing that sucks is that you have to wait 6 - 10 weeks before you recieve the kit. so my truck is sitting outside. on the plus side i have some sexy legs from walking/ riding bike!
