Nittos VS Slicks (Et Streets)
Nittos VS Slicks (Et Streets)
Can not decide which way to go. Trying to find the pros and cons. The pro's I see to Nittos is I can leave them on all summer long and will not have to change my tires at the track. Not sure what I would do with my stock tires if I was puttnig slicks on at the track. The cons to the Nittos is less traction and it is a daily driver, so not sure how it would handle in every day high way driving in the rain. Also woundering which is the best bang for the buck.......
Any input or comments would be great.
I am at 400/500 mark and have truck track traction bars.....
Thanks Doug

Here is my line of thought on this subject. (I'm considering the same things)
Our lightnings generally get the best ETs in either the spring or fall (northern guys). So I'm thinking of using my ET streets for my *new bests* attempts during the cold runs, and some DRs for all the other "fun times" at the local track.
My only problem is that I'd really like to run a set once or twice to see how much better than the F1s they really are. I've seen some guys have problems and some that' haven't.

I have used Nitto 555 DR on the street for 2 yrs. These same tires had over 200 runs at the strip. They were OK, until I got 2 400-500 R/w, then became a pain in the $ss yo get to hook up. Nittos are very expensive, and probably will only give you 8-10 thousand miles on the street. If I were you I would get 28-10 16 Hoosiers or M/T street E/T and a cheep wheel, and stay with Goodyears on the street. JMHO
get yourself a set of full slicks in 28" size, you won't regret it.
I've never seen anybody do anything on the Nittos that I couldn't do just as well on F1s.
just my .02

chris

OK 2 last questions...(nebie type questions) I think I am sold on the ET streets... plus they will be a lot funner.
1. What do you guys do with your stock wheels when you change them at the track... or are they ok to drive to the track in dry weather.... about 30 miles from the track with free way driving.
2. what is better 26in or 28in... which keeps you in the gear across the 1/4??? thanks Doug

26.
I drive on mine to the track - same type of drive as you will have. Just make sure to air them up for road use, and be prepared as they are a tad spongy on the drive to and from the track.
