Question locating a amp.

i have a mtx thunderform box, with 2 -10inch subs, 4 infinity speakers in place of the stock ones. i have a alpine 5 channel amp under the passenger seat. amp is getting so hot its cutting out. wanting to put two rockford amps under the seat. will the heat problem continue? or do i need another box for the subs so i can mount the amps up and out from under the seat? ive seen some nice speaker boxes that will allow me to do this thanks

Sounds more like the amp is being overloaded.Check to see if your wired to the correct ohm load for the amp.

That is where most people mount the amps and I don't think overheating is a normal problem. Besides checking the ohm load also make sure you ran a large enough power and ground wire. Sounds like you should have ran at least 4 gauge.

Could be ur amp is too weak for them subs. I have a JL 500/1 mounted under my passenger seat. Hooked up to my two 10" JLw6-es. After hour drives of blastin the subs at high volume/power...the amp BARELY starts gettin warm. I know for a fact that my amp has almost twice what my subs can handle...so im safe.

You should've kept the amps I sold you. No problems with heat for me. Put a hard cover on that bed and put the amps back there.

sorry to hijack your thread...I just got my amp and subs yesterday and will be installing them hopefully today. Not a super guru guy on stereo stuff. Where is the remote wire, can I just pull the stock deck out to get to it. Also is there a spot for the RCA plugs back there too. Thanks.

I have a 54 channel MTX under the passenger side seat. It would overheat and shut down if I cut the volume about a certain level. I added a two channel to power the subs as I had been running them bridged off the rear of the 4 channel...anyway....I was running 4 gauge to a T and then 8 gauge to the individual amps. still had problems with the 2 channel amp for the subs..went to 4 gauge throughout and No more worries.....
