I can't guarantee that the effect will be as dramatic on you older system. My wife's '01 Sport Trac appears to have the same 6-disc system as my L, but it's obviously a lower-quality and lower-powered unit. In the ST, the same speakers gave only a moderate improvement, and the system still doesn't sound nearly as good or as loud as the one in the L.
Jim, are those the Pioneer REV series? How do they compare to other brands?

I had a pair of Infinity Kappa series 5x7's in my Ranger (before the L). They were powered by an Alpine deck, and I never heard a better set of speakers. I'm looking at either another set of Infinity's or the REV series, which sounds comparable, for my L.

Crutchfield, easy to work with. But for rock bottom prices, go to:

www.audiowarehouseexpress.com

or

www.carstereoexpo.com

I've bought from both and been very happy.

Is that a typo or did your L really sit on the dealer lot for a year and a half!? You must have gotten a hell of a deal if you really got it new.

If you can afford them the mb quart speakers are the best, I will be getting those eventually. I went with the kenwood excellons from goodguys, there ok but I will replace them with some sort of separates soon. I also ripped out the entire interior and used dynamat extreme over every square inch i could find. the excellons accompany my 2 jl audio 8w7s great but again go with mb quart.

try the memphis power reference 5x7. its the best sounding coaxial speakers i heared (even better than some components) and at some places they even come with a lifetime warranty for $20 more, (free replacement not repair)even if it blows. you can't go wrong with that.

It's not a typo. I did get a pretty good deal for it (28 something), at least I thought at the time. But that's before I found this site and knew more about the trucks. I love the truck, but I think the dealer really worked hard to 'dump' it on me. Had I known about the issues fixed in 03, I would have paid the extra cost. And if I only waited another 2 months, I could have had an 03 for nearly the same discount anyway. ******* dealer salesmen.
