Is It A Myth?? My Opnion On The Phrase "my Insurance Company Thinks Its Just A F150
I dont know if I fully understand the somewhat used adage on here "My insurance company doesnt know its a SVT LIGHTNING" "its Just a Regular F150 to them." Have you compared another type F150 vin number price to a your lightnings?
I am an agent and believe me the last thing I am doing is calling BS on anyone..I COULD BE WRONG ON SOME CASES..I am an agent for one company and am captive to them only so I dont know how every insurance company works..But I know that if we dont have a vin number and are doing a quote when we put in per say 2000 Ford F150...there are about 15-20 different configurations of Trucks to choose from, they are all assigned a "SYMBOL" rating and the Symbol determines the price.
The higher the symbol the higher the price. I doubt its much different than any other company.
Now 5 different type F150's can be the same price but for the most part they vary.
SO even though your decs might say F150 you might have the highest SYMBOLed F150 which would indicate that your insurance company does know that your Lightning is a little more than a Regular F150
For the most part Lightnings are not much to insure, and may even be less than a Fully Loaded 4 door 4x4 Leather F150. But it comes down to a numbers game..Acuator numbers. If the History on a Lightning is it has a relatively low claims rate, low theft rate, and parts are not that much to replace..Then the engine may not be that big of deal as far as price..
Also, For the most part how much more is an L motor than a Reg 5.4??
And could that price be offset by an L's reg cab solo seat, vs an Extended Cab with more things more seats where if it totaled out...They may be the same price to fix??
well thats just my .02 If anyone actually read all this I congratulate you and wish you the best..DONT WRECK EVERYONE..KEEP OUR PREMIUMS DOWN!!
but rest assured, insurance companies know what every type of vehicle is, and what is in it from the factory by the vin number. It may not say SVT on your dec sheet, but believe me they know..The reg cab F150 in its purest form is exactly what it is. Some could argue the insurance company doesnt know what a F150 Lariat is..just because it doesnt say "LARIAT" on the dec. After all..the SVT PART and the Lightning part is a package. TO them in its raw form..its an F150. If you total, they will know by the vin, that your truck is probably worth more, than a "REGULAR F150" so if your paying premium on a "REG F150" and they dont really know, you might want to make them aware, so you do get paid the right amount on the claim.
Take care

I've got a 97 F-150 regular cab shortbed flairside and the 02 L. Full comprehensive on both.
The L was $60 LESS every six months!
We have a bunch of discounts that may be affecting that, but on the declarations page, the L is less than a 5 year older non-L F-150.
Your milage may vary....

my premium on my L was $300.00 every 6 months full coverage. bought a 2003 cobra and i am now paying $600 every 6 months. if they new i was driving a lightning why is the cobra so much more. the L are pretty reasonable to insure for the performance type of vehicle they are.

Mine said Lightning at one time; now it changed and just says F150 when I got my update card.
No matter what it is still a bargain. I went from a 2000 Dodge Dakota club cab with a V8 to my 2002 Lightning, and my insurance actually went down $50 every 6 months. So, I am happy

A drunk driver totalled my 02... he had no insurance, so mine had to pay. The insurance card said f150. They paid me exactly what I would need to buy the exact same truck from a dealer + tax.
Now on my 04 L the insurance card says Ford - Other haha. Same insurance company also...
