Question is there a way to make stock hood functional?

Hey guys,

If anybody knows aftermarket hood options, it's you Lightning owners...I've been kicking around my options for an aftermarket hood and have it narrowed down to 3 options. I'm posting here in the L forum today in regards to my 3rd option. I appreciate any and all info ya'll might provide..

My options:
- Keystone hood like Harley#356
- Goodmark hood and GT scoop like SVT123
- keep stock hood, and just put a DG Motorsports GT scoop on it, if I can figure out some way of making it functional.

Has anyone modified their stock hood to be functional somehow? If yes, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Thanks in advance.
thanks.

If you are looking for a functional hood, why not look into the shaker hood as well? Picture in sig and more in links in my sig.

Stock hood is already very functional.

It opens. It closes. It weighs very little, and stays securely shut, and is free of un-aerodynamic protrusions. I love mine!

normally I appreciate good sarcastic humor as much as the next guy, but I was really hoping for some honest input...whether it's "I don't know" or "leave it to the pros and buy a new hood" or possibly "hey here's a way to do it"....

God forbid a non-L F150 owner ask a question in the precious L forum and expect some of the usual productive, helpful responses this site is known for...I posted here because ya'll are the ones who wrench these trucks more than anybody else, and if anyone had the knowledge it'd be you guys.

I'll go back to my 6000lb, 4x4'ing, non-supercharged, Supercrew forum now...

best regards to ya's.

He maybe a little sarcastic (I thought it was funny), but he is dead on. No reason to add weight. If you've got your mind set on something for 'looks' then go for it, but I'd recommend sticking with the stock hood.

One sacarstic answer in 2.5 hours and your going to take your ball home and not play with us any more? MISTERgadget's answer was not malicious and gave you a free bump to the top, my opinion is your having a bad day or you really don't appreciate sacarsm. Anyway, a quick search turned up this: https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...p+factory+hood

Hope it helps,
David

I couldn't help it man, sorry.

Anyway a few people have made "ram air" of sorts out of stock hoods.

I know JLP did one, and a couple other people, i think 1badtk has one with a lund scoop and he cut an opening under it.

The only real issue is that aluminum by itself is tough to work with, much less keeping painted aluminum looking good around the cut.

I would keep the stock hood, it's very light and light is better.

I am on a waiting list for a 4" cowl carbon fiber hood, same company that makes hoods for supras, if they get enough pre orders they will make one, lighter than stock and with more room for uh, stuff.

thanks Fear, my searches did not bring that one up. much appreciated.

I guess my response was a bit construed as well...I didn't mean it as a *ahem* [cartman voice] "Screew you guys, I'm goin home."....perhaps if I put a or a it would have been read a little more light-hearted....it wasn't my intention to have it come across as a '**** off'.......type never does quite come across the same as it does in yer head huh?

I have the upmost respect you guys, all the wrenchin and knowledge ya pass on is cool *****...maybe I was a little miffed when I got nothing more than jokes I'll admit...But it couldn't be that I stumped the whole L forum now could it!? I didn't think so...

suavy and johnny lightning both have HUGE hood scoops.

Keystone has a functional Shaker hood, (very nice)

the stock lightning hood is aluminum and EXTREMELY LIGHT, you won't find an aftermarket hood that is lighter

No problem, it can get a little rough in here. Good luck with your project.

Uhh Hang on... Your question was
Has anyone modified their stock hood to be functional somehow?
I read it exactly the same way MISTERgadget did and was thinking what he posted.

In the 3 paragraphs about stock hoods being functional you only mention a scoop once. Which is kinda crazy because to make the stock hood into a functional ram air ( which is I guess what you were asking ) would be completely dependant on the scoop you picked and the intake system on your truck.....

Lighten up - Im an ******* but not everyone in the Lightning forum is. Ask a better/clearer question and youll get better answers. Searching some of the half a million posts wouldnt hurt ..

Doug
