Spare Tire Lock 'Key'
Spare Tire Lock 'Key'
How do I determine the key required for my factory spare tire?
I bought my 02 L used and the dealer or previous owner didn't think it neccessary to include the factory wheel locks or the key to the factory spare tire 'winch'. In fact, the jack handle was also missing!!
Does the VIN tie to the proper lock ID code? I checked my owners manual and can find nothing... How do I buy a replacement without the key code? This can't possibly be an uncommon occurance.
My old Mustang GT had an ID card attached to the lock key with the ID code on it, but I've found nothong so far.
Somebody please help before I get a(nother) flat!!
Thanks,
Herb

My brother in law just went through the same thing with a superduty. Some dealers have a master set of keys for the spare tire lock.If they don't work they can order them from your vin #.
The only problem is,they have to cut the cable to get your old one off so you will have to get a new one.
