fuel tank level when running the 1/4 mile?
I read in several magazines that when reveiwers test the 0-60 times in cars/trucks they only use a 1/4 tank of gas as to lighten the overall weight? How much fuel do you use when running the 1/4 mile. Is a 1/4 tank enough? Does it have an effect on detonation?
I always tried to run with as little fuel as possible, but I think that is the wrong concept. A while back, there was a post regarding this and I believe that 3/8 tank of gas was the most beneficial as it didn't allows the fuel pumps to starve the engine. I could be wrong, but my times were all down last season and I consistently ran with low fuel levels.
Anyone else??

I heard about starvation as well. I always go with a 1/4 to a 1/3 tank if I can. I ran the times in my sig last year at full weight with 3/4 tank on F1's lol
Of course I have a lot of gas in the tank because I am one of those crazy fools that make a lot of passes

Wondering about this as well. Both times I've been to the track in the L I've had about an 1/8 of a tank. And last time I went I was probably way too low, probably didn't help with the detonation I was getting. Put in 4 gallons of race gas and it did the trick....went up to about 1/4 tank..
I've always run pretty much on fumes in every car I've raced. I've always heard of fuel wash with the Lightnings and then I experienced it myself. After the launch, the truck feels like it is going to die for a second and then takes off again. The best analogy is that if you have ever seen a Super Gas car run, it is just like that. Now I try to have at least 1/4 tank in there.
I depends on what kind of traction bars you have and the amount of power you're putting down.
Slapper bars generally require less fuel compared to Rancho style bars. I can run 1/4 tank easy with slappers because they make the rearend rise. Rancho's on the other hand make the reareand squat and raise the front of the truck alot more.
Dealerjim could run a 1/4 tank no problem with slapper bars. All of a sudden he was stumbling right after launching. 3/8ths of a tank solved the problem. We didn't put it together for a couple of weeks but the problem started when he went to the Rancho style bars. It made perfect sense once we notice how different the two bars launch the truck.
It's all in the angle of the dangle or fuel tank in this case.

Now, with a torque converter and slicks, I'll starve the pumps at 1/4 tank.
One of my last runs was with almost 1/4 tank of gas and i had starvation.I had an extremley well hookup off the line and at the 1-2 shift the truck came down hard off power and then back up on power.I ran a 12.1 .wish i could have seen what it would have been with more gas.I never did run again that day because i didnt have enough gas and couldnt get any 103 octane for my program.Needless to say i blew the motor on the way home racing a Porsche turbo carrera after i filled up with 94 shooting juice on my nos side program.Go figure..Just had to prove that porche whos boss.I did have it by a cars lenght when my rods decided to go on vacation.lol...
