under hood light will not come on

i just happened to notice that my light under the hood does not work. i changed the bulb, and it still does not work. i have never paid it any attention at all. i was thinking the bulb was bad. is there a fuse or something that i need to check? it came to my attention when another lightning owner opened his hood, and his light came on. have not had the truck very long, only since december 2003. does ignition need to be on? i do not believe the lightning owners truck that i opened up had the ignition on. thanks for any help you may can give me.

I would play around with it a bit before I looked for a replacement. It is triggered by? A fluid? mercury? or something in there, it comes on at certain angles...but it can be a pita.

Mine works fine, but I am going to run a switched, non-keyed line to a real light. That chessy little bulb is about as useless as teats on a boar.

light

have seen this:

My L has an under hood light which operates w/ a "remote" mounted mercury switch, mounted on/near drivers side hood hinge. This energizes the green wire when it reaches the predetermined angle. the part # on this style switch is E6DB-13C705-AA. (the black w/pink is ground circuit)

I also have seen hood lights w/ mercury contained within the light housing itself, operates the same .... part # on this style is E6AB15702-AB,, wire color codes are green w/orange and black @ plug.

I would first determine style, and check with a test light for voltage, I have also seen the bulb terminals get very corroded.

You can use a third brake light bulb for a "brighter light" just be aware of possible damage to the plug from increased heat if you leave the hood open for a long period!

hope this helps.......... Jon

thanks everyone for your help. i have tried everything from cleaning the contacts, new bulbs, etc.,but no luck.............so whenever i go for a checkup at the ford dealer, i will ask them to see what the problem is. i do not think i will go just for this little problem. probably something very simple. thanks for the help.

i agree that this little light is almost useless, but us "L" owners care about every aspect of our trucks.
