Dumb new guy questions
I've been reading for awhile, but finally picked my truck up 2 weeks ago from a local guy...I love it ....I just had a few questions, and figured i'd ask the experts.
I've been reading about these apten port jobs for some time now and have heard nothin but good reviews. However my question is this. How much boost should i be seeing with the stock upper/lower and a ported apten? from what i've read it seems i should be in the neighborhood of 11 or so on my autometer. My truck pulls 10 and climbs to 12-13 in the big end before the shift.. I have taken my pulley off and measured it with 2 other locals who have bone stock trucks(same year).... and my pully is the exact same size as theirs. The truck had a 4lber lower on it when I bought it that the previous owner had just put on..and it read 16-17 at WOT. After i saw that i swapped to the stocker that night. Is it possible that my boost reading is off? what else could have created the extra 2-3 psi with my stock lower? mods are as follows
01 with 26k on it
Apten ported eaton
open 12 inch intake
shaker hood
bassani exhaust
JDM j39 chip
traction bars
throttle body
extrude honed upper
boost bypass unplugged
autometer lunar series gauge
weather has been upper to mid 60's
sorry for the long post...i'm just tryin to get to the bottom of this extra boost thing

The only mod to my engine is a cone filter. I see 11 lbs peak boost on my Auto Meter electronic boost gauge.
There is come kind of weird effect with the cone filters. While they seem to universally show more indicated boost, they are clearly not providing 2-3 additional lbs of actual boost.

Where are you located? and When you swtiched back to your stock pulley did you change the tune on your chip?

thanx for the quick replies so far guys
Most of the mods you have focus on the intake side of the heads, which will promote boost. Headers, head porting, and cams work on moving the air through and out of the engine, and will lower boost. 'Boost' is the cumulative excess of air supplied by the blower(with allowance for temperature changes). If it climbs with rpm(without drastic temp delta), then the blowers efficiency is exceeding the engine's efficiency as the rpms increase. This is understandable, since you have a freeflowing filter, a ported intake, and a ported blower. Work on the other side of the equation to get increased hp while lowering boost.
all your boost is comming from the ported eaton those numbers
sound right for the mods.
put the pulley back on and enjoy the added boost
but get the chip tunned for it since its more boost than just a 4lb lower

I believe I also saw ~12#'s of boost on a stock lower and ported Apten - in 50 degree weather.
I see 16-17 now in the same temps w/ the 4# lower.
...and soon will be adding a 2.80 upper
