Oil Filter...

Was just curious to what anyone knows about oil fliters and which brand they think is the best. Im currently using a Fram, but thinking of going to the K&N and was wondering if the price difference is worth it.

You really can’t beat a Motorcraft filter, as far as Fram goes and what I have read about it I would only use a Fram filter on my X wife’s car if a court forced me to change her oil…

Can't beat the Motorcraft FL-820S (pretty sure thats the one)
Every WalMart carries them so should be easy to find, along with the 5W-20 for those with '01-up who are using it for the 1st few changes.

They have a really bad rep. There's a few other bad ones out there too, so at least go with the Motorcraft since it's not very expensive and readily available.

take a dry fram apart and it looks like a kids felt project inside. Crappy anti drain back valve as well. Overall just a bad filter, i've heard of two bursts that put filter element inside of the engine.

yep IMHO, the standard motorcraft FL-820 is a great filter for the money. available lots of places.

I use the Mobil 1 filter though. stronger case (burst pressure) and better filter material. pricey though. I believe it's part #210

later,
chris

Also wix is a good one. We use them on all of our company equipment. Cut one open and see what you think

Mobil 1 and K&N used here....better in many aspects including higher filtration synthetic media. Fram is a POS with a cardboard anti-drainback valve. If you can't afford $10-$12 for a better filter, buy the Motorcraft. Oil filters are like condoms....not the place to cut corners.

Many years ago I also cut several different types of oil filters apart. Of all I cut apart - ony 2 really stood out as really different from the rest; AC Delco whch had much more filtering paper than any of the others - and the Fram - which still had the string around the middle and some flimsy paper on it's ends - just looked like real POC. I've never used a Fram since.

Hmmm now only if I could find that site where they showed you the results after they cut open various filters. The motorcraft filter is a very good filter.
