Upgrading a 2000L Questions
Upgrading a 2000L Questions
I have the opportunity to update the intercooler adapter (piece that supercharger bolts to) on my 2000, with a 2001 piece. Before I purchase the adapter, I need some help clarifying a couple of questions. First, how much of the 20HP increase from the 2000 to the 2001 models was the revised intercooler adapter responsible for? Second, would I need anthing other than a 2001+ supercharger to swap out the adapter? Will my 2000 intercooler fit inside the updated adapter? I am trying to figure out if this swap is worth my time/money. Thanks in advance.
If the intercooler isn't leaking on your 2000 lightning, I wouldn't change it out.. You will see no HP gain from swapping out the intercooler.
now on the other hand, if your intercooler is leaking (a common problem on 99-00 lightnings), You need to change the intercooler out.
Hope this helps!

intercooler
your blower will fit on the new piece. The new intercooler has 10 rows of cooling fins as opposed to 8 on the originals. I just put my intercooler back on after cleaning it about 5 minutes ago. Not sure about what give the extra 20 hp. I'd bet the majority of it is in the tune.
I had the intercooler replaced under the recall, but I'm not sure if the replacement was 8 or 10 rows. I remember reading something about the intercooler adapter being slightly redesigned for 2001, and that is where part of the HP increase came from. I searched for old threads, but everything I turned up was pretty vague.
