Good Newbie Info online? Help me out!

Instead of coming in here posting thread after thread asking newbie questions I would think that someone could direct me to a site where I can find pretty FAQ's about the 99+ Lightnings. I just purchased a 2001 Lightning and don't know all that much ... yet!

Can someone help me out here?

Thanks!

First off congrats on the L and what color is it? THe best thing to do on newbie Q's is to do a search about all the other newbie Q's. It should answer most of what you wanna know but if it dont feel free to post a Q and everyone here will do there best to help answer

Hey Thanks! The truck is black, 2001 with 25k on the clock. Completely stock except the K&N and Heat shield. (not really a CAI, is it?)

The thing is I really don't know what I need to know! I am just looking for basic information. What year did what change? What are weak points of the truck? Where do you start modding? Catback? Gears? Chip?

Etc ... etc ...

Thanks again!

Ill try and answer some.

99-00 have 360 hp, no euros different wheels 3.53 gears. 01 and up have 3.73 380 hp, euros different wheels and a few other things. The weak point is the rods. Get a chip, 4lb lower and some traction bars

Oh and if youd like to just talk Lightnings look me up on AOL IM my s/n is BLWNTRK

Alot of guys have their prefered vendor, but any of the major tuners are good for chips...just do a search for the names and see what people have said...heres the list of vendors...

https://www.f150online.com/vendors.cfm

you might want to search about the predator and see what you think about that too...

I have a #6 pulley on now, but I had a #2 and a #4. A #4 is pretty safe, #6 spins the blower pretty fast, but alot of guys still use it...just depends on your ow preference and how safe you want to be with your engine...

So, should I go with a #2 since I would like to be really safe, or is a #4 still safe enough? Any other pre-cautions I can take to run a #4? What do you prefer as far as a traction bar? What's the most used traction bar?

Thanks a bunch for all the help and links everybody! You guy's

A 4# is proven plenty safe with a good conservative tune. You can have a solid 12sec. truck, a great daily driver, and still get 15mpg if you can keep your foot out of it of course, -that seems to be the hard part

Congrats on the new truck.

BTW: Here is the prod. breakdown for 2001.

Year Black Red White Silver Blue Grey Total
2001 1908 1722 1170 1581 none none 6381

Sweet, thanks man! How do I go about getting a good conversative tune? Do I just get a chip or do I need to dyno it after TB, pulley, exhaust?

Get a chip from one of the big three and youll be fine but a dyno check wont hurt
