Question No X-Pipe in CA??

OK well, im trying to get a new exhaust on my 2002 L, so I decided to see how much it'd be to have a local shop put on a magnaflow similar to the silver bullet, well I just got off the phone and he says that the x-pipe is not street legal on our trucks and wont pass smog. I thought that was odd since jdm and razorsedge sell those kits for the lightning. Is this a CA thing? ( im in san diego) looks like im gonna have to go back to getting the single muffler with built in x-pipe. Thanks

I've never heard that, I have the Bassani with x-pipe and I'm in san diego. Have you tried calling around?

After 1996 it is illegal to put anything other than a stock cat on. The truck or car also has to have more than 40-50K miles on it as well before any shop would even consider putting on a catted xpipe, which would fail the visual smog inspection anyways. Your best bet is to find a performance shop that will do it or just go without. That's law regarding the cats.

However in your case as long as the x section is after the cat I don't see why any shop would have a problem doing it.
